From Harford County Public Schools:
William Paca/Old Post Road Elementary School will host a celebration for the Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) parent-involvement program on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. The event is designed to celebrate the dads who are already involved in the program and to encourage more dads to join.
The night will kick-off with a pizza party, followed by presentations from current Watch D.O.G.S. about the program. Testimonials will be shared by students, parents and teachers and there will be a sign-up period for new dads to join the program. Students will serve their dads dessert to conclude the celebration.
Since the program’s kick off, more than 110 dads, uncles, grandfathers and fatherly figures have partnered with the school to get more involved through the program. Watch D.O.G.S. is intended to give fatherly figures an opportunity to volunteer at the school and promote male presence within the classrooms. Watch D.O.G.S. work directly with the school’s family liaisons, Linda Nitchie and Carinda Raftery, who plan a schedule for them to be a part of their child’s school day and, in turn, help other children as well. Watch D.O.G.S. proudly wear custom t-shirts and arrive early in the morning to greet children as the busses pull in, assist with morning announcements and spend the rest of their day making a difference.
