From the Maryland State Highway Administration:
Crews Pre-Treated Roads in Advance of Late March Storm
This morning and afternoon, Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) crews pre-treated interstates in the Baltimore and Washington metropolitan areas in advance of the late March storm forecasted to bring snow beginning at approximately 2 a.m. Most SHA maintenance shops are opening by midnight, and crews will be poised to continue treating roads overnight and throughout the morning. Resources will be deployed from Maryland’s Emergency Operations Center, which is also activating overnight.
“SHA constantly monitors weather conditions posing a threat to the State, and remains at the ready to keep Maryland roads open and safe – it makes no difference if it’s January or March, we’re on guard and ready,” says SHA Administrator Neil J. Pedersen. “Just as we treat every snow storm seriously, we ask Maryland motorists to do the same. Be prepared for icy conditions especially on the bridges, ramps and overpasses. Even a very small patch of ice can cause a hazard for drivers.”
While forecasts are calling for only minor accumulations, roads may be wet and slick. Motorists are reminded that speed limits are set for ideal weather conditions and that conditions may demand slower travel. Remember to buckle up and plan ahead allowing for extra travel time. Leave plenty of distance between you and the vehicle in front of you.
Before leaving home tomorrow morning, log onto www.roads.maryland.gov and click the CHART icon for the latest road conditions, live traffic cameras and a variety of information to help with travel decisions and planning. Citizens can also call the winter storm hotline at 1-800-327-3125 and follow SHA on Twitter @MDSHA.
