Bob and Jean Day Pavilion Dedication on May 7 at the Dublin Country Fair

From the Dublin-Darlington Recreation Council:

On May 7, at the 16th Annual Dublin Country Fair, the Dublin Darlington Recreation Council will formally dedicate the Bob and Jean Day Pavilion. The dedication will take place on the Dublin Country Fair Stage at 11AM.

Mr. and Mrs. Day were long-time members of the Dublin Darlington Recreation Council, and were the co-founders of the Dublin Dancers Square Dance program. The Dublin Dancers are the longest-running recreation program in Harford County, spanning over 40 years. They became active in the Dublin Recreation Council in 1965.

Mr. Day served as Council President and treasurer for over 20 years, and then served on the Council Board. Mrs. Day chaired women’s fitness, baton & majorettes and a walking program, and served on the Council Board.

Mr. and Mrs. Day met in grade school in the Dublin community, married there and chose to raise their family there. Beyond their Recreation Council work, they were instrumental in the historic preservation of their grade school bell, served as church trustees, on a scholarship committee, volunteered with the local Boy and Girl Scout chapters, and served on local community association and PTA boards.

The 16th annual Dublin Country Fair will be held on the grounds of Dublin Elementary School, Saturday May 7, 2011, rain or shine from 10AM to 3PM. The day offers something for all ages.

The fair starts out with a fabulous parade at 10AM, which is followed by a family-friendly fair, with live entertainment starting at 11AM. The fair includes many craft vendors, delicious food and numerous children’s games. Not to mention the Duchy of Chesapeake Renaissance Reenactment Group and classic car show!

Proceeds from the fair support scholarships awarded to individuals living in the Dublin/Darlington Elementary School districts and attending an institution or trade school beyond high school.
