An ordinance set for adoption by the Aberdeen City Council on Monday night would make several tweaks the city Code regarding to municipal elections, including removing prohibitions on campaign sign size and adjusting the period during which such campaign signs can be displayed.
Among other changes, the proposed ordinance would remove the requirement that campaign signs may be posted in the City no more than 30 days prior to the
election and also remove the prohibition on campaign signs larger than six square feet. The Code would be strengthened in regard to placement of campaign signs with the addition of the wording that campaign signs “cannot impede public right-of-way.”
Aberdeen will hold its municipal elections on November 8. The seats of Mayor Michael Bennett and all four council members (Ruth Elliott, Bruce Garner, Sandy Landbeck and Ruth Ann Young) will all be on the ballot with the new four-year term of office.
An ordinance refinancing Community Development Administration (CDA) loans and a resolution concerning the Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County Learn Project are also on the agenda.
Also Monday night, the city’s Director of Planning & Community Development will review the preliminary site plan for Grace United Methodist Church and the city manager will present paving bids, including an Aberdeen Proving Ground mini-excavator and trailer purchase, for approval.
Immediately after adjourning the public session Monday, the Aberdeen City Council will move into an executive session, which is closed to the public.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in Aberdeen City Hall.
