From the Maryland Lottery:
Still reeling from their new multi-millionaire status, an Abingdon couple arrived at Lottery Headquarters to claim the first Powerball jackpot won in Maryland. The happy twosome, still contemplating whether to disclose their identities to the public, had the only winning ticket for the September 7th drawing.
“We’re thrilled to finally have a big Powerball jackpot win in Maryland,” said Communications Director Carole Everett. “It’s been quite a winning week here at the Maryland Lottery. We also welcomed a $200,000 Powerball winner, as well as a $1 million scratch-off winner.”
The lucky Powerball ticket was purchased in Harford County at Wine World, located at 406-A Constant Friendship Blvd. in Abingdon. Wine World owner Elizabeth LaBruto expressed her delight upon hearing the news, “I’m happy to hear that Maryland sold its first top-tier jackpot ticket, jazzed that it happened in this community and thrilled that Wine World was a part of it. Good things happen to good people and Wine World customers are the best!” Wine World will receive a $25,000 commission for selling the ticket.
Good for them. Make sure everything is in place like a financial advisor and lawyer. And don’t spend it all in one place. Oh, and I’m a long lost relative. Can I borrow 2.5 million?
Congradulations and happy retirement!
I HOPE THEY ENJOY THEIR MILLIONS. AND HELP THE POOR. OH YEAH I COULD USE 1 COOL MILLION….LOL….CONGRATULATIONS!
Don’t reveal your identity….it will cause nothing but problems beyond the new ones you already have with all this money.
Don’t say a word, spend wisely, invest wisely, and be the only house on the block with a helicopter pad.
My wife knows who it is, she was told by one of their relatives. I didn’t ask who, and she didn’t offer. It’s not my business.
But with no raise in 3 years and a 1 year old, I’d love to help them out with part of their brand new tax problem.
I hear ya, Noble; unfortunately, making donations to our favorite charities (heck, my household has been a non-profit for decades now!) doesn’t do anything to help with their tax burden. Pity, though…
You mean they didn’t plan this out before they bought the ticket?
congrats, tread lightly .
