Southampton Middle School will celebrate the grand opening of its Ben Carson Reading Room on September 28, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. Southampton Middle was awarded $10,000 in December 2010 by Louis & Phyllis Friedman, attorneys and Board members for the Carson Scholars Fund. Judy Fida, paraeducator at Southampton Middle and volunteer for the Carson Scholars Fund, took on the project. Ms. Fida, art students, faculty/staff and community members volunteered their time this summer to create a jungle-theme mural and a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere to encourage students to enjoy the experience of reading books. Southampton Middle has also been recognized as the only school in Harford County to have the most Carson Scholars. Congratulations to Southampton Middle School.
Well, today the Southampton Middle School Dr. Ben Carson Reading Room officially opened and what an awesome experience we have had working with the numerous volunteers in our wonderful community. We are still a small hometown community and need to appreciate those that are looking after our future “scholars”.
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Friedman, from Stack and Store, were most generous in their donation to make this magic happen. Congratulations Southampton Middle and Ms. Judy Fida for all of your hard work.
