From the Maryland State Police, Bel Air Barrack:
(Abingdon, MD) On Thursday, October 6, 2011 at approximately 3:25 p.m., troopers from the Bel Air Barrack responded to Gabriel Brothers at 3430 Emmorton Road, Abingdon, Md. for a shoplifting complaint.

Both suspects then managed to flee from the parking lot in a vehicle owned by the female suspect’s relatives. Troopers were able to track down and apprehend the suspects through vehicle registration plate information documented by store employees.

Waiting for the “It’s the economy” excuses… Come on let’s see people defend this crap
werdna says
Its not the economy! This guy has never had a chance of a life without crime as once he was labeled, his opportunities just faded away. We create repeat offenders because of lack of opportunity after convictions. Its either steal or go hungry……
none says
This guy is more then a 3 times loser. He needs to be sent away for a long time.
David A. Porter says
Only those of us who pay attention to the information contained in Maryland Case Search see patterns of disturbing behavior. For us it represents an indication of a potential threat should we come in contact with any of these people on the street. The court simply assesses the current case, without regard for previous misbehavior, and dispenses justice however meek to deal with recurring nuisances in our community. The only people on the streets that see the patterns and act on information provided by the public for our own protection is law enforcement. And with so many released back into society by a legal system geared to protecting the guilty at the expense of the innocent, end up meeting officers multiple times in the course of their careers. People were offended when “Three Strikes, You’re Out” was introduced for repeat offenders. People are offended at the notion of drug testing people on state assistance before continuing to receive benefits. The rest of us would lose our jobs if any of these things were to happen to us. Our society cares for the disadvantaged, they simply choose to pay them and set them in a corner and pray they will not become a problem later on. And they invariably do.
werdna says
David, you are right, penalties for repeat offenders should be stiffer. Section 8 housing has done harford wrong. People who fail drug tests lose their jobs. People with government assistance are spending money meant for kids on drugs. But, would you have hired this guy as an employee? I mean, he continues to steal, but did he ever have a chance to not steal after his first conviction? You know, harford county administrators are the ones who accepted the section 8 deal years ago to put more money in their pockets and bring the crime here to harford. David, you own your company right? Who is gonna give you the drug test to get you fired? David, the drugs most section 8 participants are on are out of their system in 7 days or less, so would drug testing them really make a difference or would it cost that much more money just to prove what we already know? Do you think the drug testing would hinder the abusers of the system or would they commit a different type of crime to get the drugs? Just think about it……..
werdna says
Well, the armed robbery charge won’t stick because they didn’t produce a weapon to commit the crime, just to flee the scene. No one was injured, so the 1st degree assault won’t stick. The 2nd degree assault probably occured and should stick if someone was pushed or touched. The reckless endangerment and the theft of under $100 will definately stick as will the Unlawful use of a Motor Vehicle. So all these felonious charges are brought about just so a misdemeanor crime will be plead out in circuit court. Isn’t everyone glad that our legal system sucks.
MrMarkN says
Is it just me? Or is there a preponderance of “Edgewood Residents” in a great number of these articles? Hopefully, the new Sheriff’s Station might help cut down on this crap.
werdna says
The new Sheriff Station is a joke. Do you really think a new station outside of edgewood will decrease the crime when the current one in edgewood is located within feet of the open air crime areas of edgewood and absolutely no deterrence of crime has been established?
Becky Zivkovic says
Store employees should have let them walk. Then get a plate number, and call the police. No amount of merchandise is worth getting hurt.
werdna says
Becky, you have the right idea. I agree with everything you said.
HYDESMANN says
More vermin running wild in Harford Co. They should go to jail for 20 years or be deported to DC or PG County. Or maybe Harford Co. should bulldoze Edgewood and build a slots parlor there.
OUCH says
Really?? So what do the hard working, tax paying, law abiding citizens think about your hurtful comment. IGNORANT!!
werdna says
Wow, 20 years for shoplifting under $100 worth of clothes. You willing to float the bill of 20 years of incarceration for this?
Pavel314 says
The Dagger should follow up on this to see if the “suspects” were living in Section 8 housing, paid for by the rest of us. If so, they should be tossed out.
werdna says
You should complain to county council, they are the ones who allowed the section 8 years ago for whatever reason. My bad though, they weren’t in office back then so they will say its not their fault. I guess we just need to increase our spending on law enforcement so even more cops can do nothing and we can feel just that much more unprotected…..
vietnam vet says
Well it would’nt surprise me to find out they live in low income houseing, since they would rather steal then work. The Edgewood shopping area is small compared to the shops in
werdna says
You are absolutely right. No one getting out of jail would want a job. After all, Harford has so many jobs for the recently convicted to fall back on……
Otto Schmidlap says
Where my chek?
Ron says
I used to work at both the Bel Air MD and York PA Gabriel Brothers store as Loss Prevention, and I caught just dozens and dozens of shoplifters. The amount of theft in those stores is simply insane.
What I can say, with experience, is that some times it is impossible to attempt to disengage from a violent apprehension and allow the shoplifter to escape. As soon as customers realize there is a shoplifter apprehension occurring, they all crowd in front of both sets of doors to watch, which is seriously dangerous for themselves, the Loss Prevention associate, and the shoplifter.
If you see an apprehension happening, unless you are a police officer, do the right thing and stay out of it. Do not block the doors so you can take video of it with you iPhone, and don’t attempt to “help”, unless the LP person is getting pounded, in which case you can determine, as a private citizen, if you are willing to assist to save the LP person from harm. And do not help the damn shoplifter. When they steal, stores mark up their prices to cover their losses, which does nothing but screw honest customers that pay for their merchandise, not the company.
Dissenter says
yea sure!! if we had less sanctimonious hypocrites in harford co. like some of those above we would all be better off!…maybe we should pay closer attention to what the hcpd is doing?… after all theyre mostly forwood wanna be’s or at the very least “opportunist”…lol. i dont know who’s worse? you hypocrites or the legal gang w/guns
SAID IT LIKE IT IS! says
Ok!I kind of agree with(OUCH ,WHEN SAID “ALL OF US HARD WORKING ,TAX PAYING ,LAW ABIDING CITIZENS”) I M AS WELL A HARD WORKING CITIZEN AND I DON’T GO AROUND ROBBING ANYONE .THE DAGGER”I MUST SAY NOT EVERY SECTION 8 INDIVIDUAL ARE THE SAME SO IT WOULD BE WRONG TO BE JUDGEMENTAL ON JUST ONE GROUP EVEN THOUG THEY DO NOT GRANT SECTION 8 TO THOSE WHO REALLY NEEDED … NOW AS FOR THE HYDESMANN.I DON’T KNOW Y YOU BLAIMING THE PEOPLE IN EDGEWOOD FOR THIS COUPLE WRONG DOING YOU NEED TO BLAIN THE CITY FOR PUSHING EVERY LOW LIFE OUT OF THE CITY INTO THE EDGEWOOD AREA …..I BELIEVE THE COPS NEED TO GET OFF THERE ASS HIDDING IN THE WOODS OF ROUT 40 AND BE MORE INVOLVE IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD THEY ONLY COME AROUND AFTER THE FACT OR CRUEL ACT ARE DONE AND OVER WITH ALL THEY WORRIED ITS ABOUT TICKETS NOT PORPLE AND THAT A FACT…..THE MORE PATROL THEY SEE AROUND THE MORE THEY THINK ABOUT BRAKING THE LAW….
werdna says
Spoke like someone who “SAID IT LIKE IT IS!”
frankly speaking says
so, low income housing gets blamed for this robery with no proof that the robbers live on low income housing? How inflamatory and ignorant that a robber living in Edgewood must be living in low income housing as if everyone living in Edgewood must be a criminal or living on low income housing…
werdna says
What, you didn’t know that everyone in edgewood is a criminal? The police figured that out years ago, thats why they gave up on trying to protect citizens of edgewood and the proof is moving the station out of town………
Concerned Teacher says
How is this a “related article” to the post about someone getting their humorous anecdote published in Reader’s Digest? Please, Dagger people, let’s have some pride in your work.
Don't be silly says
Clearly it’s because they both had the “abingdon” tag. Don’t insult them by thinking they are so dumb as to link them purposefully.
