DARLINGTON LIONS CLUB WINTER FRUIT SALES
The Darlington Lions Club will be conducting the first of its two winter fruit sales. Fresh Florida navel oranges and pink grapefruit are available by the full case (4/5 of a bushel) for $23 or by the half case (2/5 of a bushel) for $13.50. Orders must be placed by Wednesday, Nov 23 and fruit will be available for pick-up on Saturday, Dec 10 from 9:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. at the Darlington United Methodist Church. WILSON MINISTRY CENTER- JOB VACANCY
The Wilson Ministry Center is in the processing of interviewing candidates for a part-time director position for our Getting There Ride Share (GTRS) program. Due to funding from two grants, we’re excited that we will finally have a paid staff member to coordinate and direct activities for this program. We’ll look forward to “introducing” you to our new director in the December issue of the 21034 E-newsletter! GTRS provides low-cost transportation for area residents age 60 years and older. HARFORD’S MOST BEAUTIFUL PERSON EDNA REEVES
At the 25th annual Harford’s Most Beautiful Award ceremony on Thursday, October 27, Edna Reeves was selected as the finalist from among a field of seventeen nominees. The event was videotaped and will be televised on Harford Cable Network every Sunday in November at 7:00 PM. Photos and videos are available now on the Darlington Apple Festival face book page. Harford’s Most Beautiful is a statewide project. Edna will now represent Harford County at the Maryland State level. Congratulations to Edna Reeves, Darlington resident and extraordinary volunteer!
DUBLIN DARLINGTON COMMUNITY COUNCIL
On Wednesday, October 19, the Dublin Darlington Community Council (DDCC) held the first Town Meeting after more than a year since the Darlington Dublin Community Association (DDCA) closed down. In response to requests from the public, the DDCC members voted to resume semi-annual Town Meetings in the fall and spring. The first meeting featured presentations from the State Highway Department regarding traffic in the local area; the Sheriff’s Office regarding crime statistics; Delmarva Power on energy supply issues. County Councilman Chad Shrodes gave an update on local government. The meeting ended with an open Q & A forum. A second Town Meeting is planned for the spring. Meanwhile the DDCC holds monthly meetings at the Conowingo Visitor Center (Route 1 just south of the dam) on the third Wednesday of the month. The next meeting will be held on November 16 at 7:00 PM. Meetings are open to the public and there are currently openings for new members. MARTHA HOPKINS IS 2011 APPLE OF OUR EYE
This year marked the 25th anniversary of the Darlington Apple Festival. Every year the committee selects a local resident for the honor of “Apple of Our Eye”. Congratulations to Martha Hopkins, Apple of Our Eye for 2011! She resides at Elberton Hill Farm, which has been in the Hopkins family since 1658. Her devotion to her community runs deep and has been an inspiration for her family and others. Thank you, Martha!
