Harford County Deputy Code Director Truitt Sr. Elected to International Code Council Board of Directors

(Bel Air, MD) – Richard C. Truitt Sr., Harford County Deputy Code Director, has been elected as a Director on the International Code Council Board. As Deputy Director, he helps administer programs for issuing, maintaining and controlling of licenses and permits required by the county.

Through public/private sector collaboration, the Code Council provides support to government by developing codes that allow for safe and sustainable construction. As a result, government does not take on the high cost of developing its own codes and benefits from code uniformity that encourages local, affordable construction growth.

Truitt has served with Harford County, based in Bel Air, since August 1994 when he started as a Commercial Plans Reviewer and Building Inspector. He also is an Executive Board Member of the Code Councils Region 7 and has been a member of the Maryland Building Officials Association since 1989, including serving as President.

Truitt was elected as a Section Director during the Council’s 2011 Annual Conference in November. The section includes the states of Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia and West Virginia; Washington, D.C.; and the Canadian Provinces New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Quebec.

Weiland. “They could not serve on the board without the support of the jurisdictions they work for. The International Code Council is a member-focused association dedicated to helping the building safety community and construction industry provide safe and sustainable construction through the development of codes and standards used in the design, build and compliance process.
