The Falcon Flying Feet Running Club is a group of active and dedicated students at North Harford Middle School. This club, which is growing in size and popularity, meets every Wednesday and Friday afternoon for its 57 members to work on their pace, endurance and fitness level. The students, who are at different training levels, are learning the ins and outs of the sport of running, as well as spending extra time with their friends. The students involved in the club are very interested in improving their time in order to participate in, what is for many of them, their first official 5K that is quickly approaching.
The Annual 5K One World Run will be held November 19, 2011, in White Hall at the Norrisville Recreation Complex. As in the past, this international event takes place in many cities and countries around the world. The cause has even spread to Antarctica, so this year there will be runners on every continent! Since the race is completely corporate-sponsored, all the race fees go directly to Project AIDS Orphan (PAO). PAO is a not-for-profit organization supporting children who have been orphaned by the AIDS crisis in East Africa. Funding goes directly towards Mission House of Hope which provides food, clothing, health care and education to AIDS Orphans in Kenya. Funds raised last year were used in the construction of the Katito Health Clinic in Kenya. Stateside, the goal is to create an awareness of the African AIDS crisis and educate individuals about how they can help and raise funds for these children. Project AIDS Orphan is tax exempt pursuant to Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3), and most donations are tax deductible.
