From Harford County government:
BALTIMORE BOHEMIANS will be a member of the United Soccer Leagues (USL)/Premier Development League (PDL), one of the nation’s top organizations for the advancement and evolution of young soccer players. The team’s season will run from April to July, and in addition to participating in the PDL, the team will aim to compete in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup.
The club, established by residents of Baltimore and Harford County, aims to further the growth of the Baltimore soccer community throughout the metropolitan area and promote the best young players from across the region. Announcements regarding the management and coaching staff will be made in the coming weeks.
Home games will be played at Cedar Lane, a 112 acre park located at the intersection of Routes 543 and 136 in Bel Air, MD. Over the coming months, improvements will be made on the grounds in the style of traditional British venues.
“We are extremely pleased to join with County Executive Craig to bring the ‘beautiful game’ to the Baltimore area,” principal owner, Louis Angelos said. “This is a special opportunity to partner with the community and the USL to enhance the parks and recreation facilities while, at the same time, providing a local, affordable, family entertainment option.”
“We look forward to hosting soccer fans when the ‘BOH’S’ set foot on the pitch for the first time in 2012.”
Founded in 1986, The United Soccer League has become the largest organization of elite-level soccer leagues in North America by building on the vision, commitment and passion of players, fans and investors. Now in its third decade of operation, USL continues to be a driving force in the growth of soccer in the United States.
“This is an exciting day for USL and soccer fans in Baltimore,” USL CEO Alec Papadakis said. “We’re most excited about the quality of ownership joining USL in the Bohemians. They have an extensive record of supporting local initiatives, in general, as well as throughout the Maryland sporting community, including baseball, horse racing, and, now, soccer. There’s no doubt in our minds that the Baltimore Bohemians will become one of our most successful teams.”
