From Harford County Public Schools:
Since the beginning of the school year, North Harford Elementary has been on their way to the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Though they may not be going to the actual games, students have been working and playing hard to get there.
Every minute that each student spends physically active during free play is collected and converted into miles. A bulletin board tracks their journey, so it’s easy for students to see their current location. In addition, the display also shares wellness facts related to each country visited.
Along the way, students learn about the countries they’re traveling through in the classroom. During physical education, students learn the history of many of the games and sports that are played around the world and at the Olympics. In music and art classes, students create art projects and learn songs and dances from many of the countries. Each class also researches facts about different country which will be incorporated into the official travel site display.
All of the students’ hard work will be celebrated at the end of the year and will culminate in a fantastic Olympic field day complete with North Harford Elementary’s own special opening ceremonies!
