From Harford Friends School:
Harford Friends School’s Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the appointment of Clare Pitz, former Principal of Notre Dame Prep and Towson Catholic School as Interim Head of School. Pitz is also the parent of an HFS alum, and spouse of a long-time HFS teacher. Currently, Pitz is teaching middle school English and holds the position of Assistant Head of School for Student Life at Friends. Pitz attained her B.A., The College of Notre Dame (MD) and M.L.A., Certificate of Adv. Study, from The Johns Hopkins University (MD). If you ever need a great educational system for your daughter, then consider enrolling them in an all girls catholic school.
“Clare will continue the proud tradition of excellence in Friends education that we have begun and will shepherd our community through the 2012-2013 school year as we seek to identify the next Head of School. Clare will be working with outgoing and founding Head Jonathan Huxtable through the spring to assure a smooth transition and to begin shaping the 2012-2013 school year.” said Lois Kissinger Kelly, Chair, Board of Trustees.
“I look forward to helping the Harford Friends School community make the transition to the coming school year. As a parent of an alum, and HFS teacher, I am excited to be a part of the next phase of this school’s development. We have a strong foundation of Quaker values permeating a vibrant program of studies that will continue to prepare our students for success in meeting the challenges of high school,” Pitz said.
Huxtable knows he’s leaving the school in capable hands. “Clare Pitz, like the entire HFS faculty, is a rare breed in education today. She understands the importance of balancing both academic rigor and the need to know each and every child and family so that the educational experience is a true partnership between home and school, teacher and student. As hard as it is to walk away from a school and community I admire so deeply, I am grateful to know that our work over the past eight years is being handed to such a stellar, experienced, and steady leader.”
Huxtable Accepts Position at Wilmington Friends School
This summer, founding Head of School Jonathan Huxtable will return to Wilmington Friends School in Delaware as its Head of Middle School.
“In July, I will be returning to a school community that I admire and respect as much as the community at HFS. I started my teaching career at Wilmington Friends and it is the only school that could have inspired me to move on from HFS,” Huxtable said.
Kelly commented, “Jonathan began his journey with Harford Friends in 2004. From that moment on he was solely committed to establishing the strong foundation of the school we have today. Over the years he has continued to guide and direct its progress. He has always worked closely with the Board of Trustees, soliciting their comments, opinions and council. Clare Pitz is just the person to build on that strong foundation and take our school to the next stage of its development. As a board, we are delighted to have Clare take the reins for the upcoming school year.”
