From the office of Rep. Andy Harris:
Washington, DC – Yesterday, for a second year in a row, Rep. Andy Harris passed an amendment in the House to stop shipping hard-earned American taxpayer dollars to China and India to make their cities more energy efficient. Rep. Harris’ amendment to H.R. 5325 – FY 2013 Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, would prohibit the use of funds for many of the international projects in the office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), including the President’s plan to spend up to $750,000 on “Sustainable Cities” projects in China and India.
“Unfortunately, President Obama is choosing to spend hard-earned taxpayer dollars in China and India on foreign “Sustainable Cities” projects, even as we borrow money from China to pay our national debt,” said Rep. Andy Harris. “We should not be making the massive national debt we pass along to our children and grandchildren even larger to increase Chinese efficiency. I do not believe these projects pass the test of making good use of hard-earned taxpayer dollars.”

Andy Harris, why don’t you ever share any news with us about projects you help sponsor? I’m getting tired of hearing about all the things you block…
The Money Tree says
You’d rather he not care about the insanity of sending US dollars to China for green energy projects while we borrow money from China for just about everything else? That doesn’t seem absurd to you?
lolz says
I never said I didn’t agree with Harris. In fact, I agree with him here entirely. I would just like to hear about something that Andy Harris has actually done, not just blocked, if I am to vote for him again.

If more elected officials followed Andy Harris’ example we would all benefit.
Good job Andy!

–True, but it does help to “spread the wealth around a bit”, which is exactly what he said he was going to do.
So, we’re using American dollars (whose value is propped up by a communist country that OWNS part of our country), to help fund projects in the communist country that’s helping to keep our dollar afloat…..Only in America!

$750,000 for sustainable energy “projects” in China and India?
as a PTA Mom who has spent countless hours along with many, many other people in education …raising money to make things better for our children and their teachers in public schools, please say it isn’t true …
exactly who is building these projects and receiving the $750,000 check(s) …is someone getting rich off of these projects? who will be going to China and India to see that the $750,000 was spent properly and how much will it cost to fly them there and put them up in hotels, and pay their salary, etc?
I just can’t believe that the Democrat Party is “for poor people” anymore. $750,000 would hire at least 7 – 8 extra teachers who could work with some of the 80 plus children who are below level in reading and math in our middle school alone. A teacher told me that out of all of the education grads from Towson University this past year, I forget the exact number but there were a shocking number of them who were not finding jobs.
If the teachers union would allow the Democrat state legislators to waive the pensions/some benefits for these new hires, at $50,000 a teacher, you could get 15 new teachers ….giving 15 college graduates jobs and helping ..even at a class size of 10 …. 150 students who are below grade level in reading and math.
$750,000 … it makes me almost feel sick to my stomach.
I hate what bad government does to our citizens, especially those who are poor and disadvantaged and need good government the most.

The democratic party is not for the poor. It is about enslaving as many people as possible with entitlements to maintain power.

I’m not saying this isn’t true, but I’d like to know exactly what Mr. Harris “did” to “pass” the ammendment, since none of the passed ammendments to this bill found here
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/112/hr5325
were introduced by him.
It’s also difficult to tell exactly what the $750k was going to do, it could have even been for an American company doing work in China, but who knows.
At any rate, that’s $750k that could certainly be better spent, or saved, in some other way.

Damn it, Andy, quit doing stuff that makes sense. It’s making your critics look like fools.
