From the Office of the State Fire Marshal:
Deputy State Fire Marshals have charged two 18-year old females with malicious burning and other related charges with a fire at the Arrow Center located at 2408 Creswell Road in Bel Air on June 5, 2012. The afternoon fire caused less than $1,000.00 in damages to shrubbery and a propane grill.
Fire Marshals determined Rydesha Q. Cephas and Diana L. Sterling placed burning paper in and around the shrubbery and the gas grill. During the investigation it was determined the females attempted to accelerate the fire by spraying hairspray onto the fire.
Staff from the Arrow Center quickly controlled the blaze before it spread to the building or to the propane tank connected to the grill. There were no injuries and the local fire department was not requested.
Cephas and Sterling were served with criminal summons and charged with 2nd degree Malicious Burning, Attempt to Burn Property and Reckless Endangerment. A trial date of August 2, 2012 has been scheduled in Harford County District Court. If convicted of all offenses, Cephas and Sterling could receive up to 7 years imprisonment and/or $6,000.00 in fines.
