From the office of Del. Pat McDonough:
OBAMA’S “ILLEGALS” POLITICAL STUNT
Most Americans believe in the “rule of law.” The highest law in the land is the Constitution. All elected representatives from the President on down swear an oath to uphold the Constitution. Once again, the President violated the Constitution, federal law, and his oath of office by creating a new law of providing amnesty for illegals. The problem with this so-called executive order from the President is that he does not possess the power to create new laws. The balance of powers section of the Constitution clearly commands that the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government retain the authority to create and review legislation.
The President’s fiat providing amnesty rights to illegal aliens by allowing them to acquire work permits circumvents the Congress and violates the Constitution and the Federal Immigration Act. This political stunt initiated in an election year cries out for immediate impeachment hearings and a preventive federal lawsuit. Congressman Steven King of Iowa, the Chairman of the Immigration Reform Committee, has announced that he will launch a federal lawsuit to stop Obama’s reckless executive order.
From a practical point of view, the President’s actions will seriously hurt American workers. Twenty-four million people are underemployed in this nation and 43% of the unemployed have been collecting benefits for more than 6 months. With a stroke of a pen, Mr. Obama has generated 1.5 million new work permits to people who are in our country without lawful presence. The result is 1.5 million jobs will be stolen from Americans. This illegal action is designed to promote his re-election at a time when we are suffering a “jobs depression” which he has been unable to resolve are unbelievable.
Mr. Obama’s law was not processed in a deliberate fashion with review by the House and Senate, which causes many dangerous events to unfold. Since the illegals are now eligible to work, are they eligible for unemployment benefits? Will employers be forced to provide them with healthcare? What happens to the State and local counties like Anne Arundel which have strong laws against illegals being employed? Where is the justice for those employers who have been heavily fined or imprisoned for employing illegals in the past? How do the federal government and those states which now utilize the E-verify detection system continue to operate and still comply with the President’s executive order? Will the illegals receive minority hiring preferences over American workers? Yes, Mr. Obama’s thoughtless political scheme has opened up a “can of snakes” which always happens when a politician ignores the “rule of law.” The Obama administration makes Richard Nixon look like a boy scout.
The good news is that Mr. Obama’s miscalculation will not only generate his defeat on Nov. 6, 2012, but also the demise of the Maryland Dream Act which will be on referendum at the same time.

Why don’t you spend your energy doing something constructive for this country and quit belly-aching.

So Obama doesn’t like some of our laws and rather then be bothered by that stupid piece of paper (the constitution) he feels he can rule like a dictator. Anyone can see that his decision was made to get votes rather than what is good for America.Since middle class America is doing so great(according to him)we don’t need those 15 million jobs anyhow.

Yeah… it’s almost exactly like putting people in internment camps. Glad you could make that analogy stick.
RINO Hunter says
What? Who mentioned internment camps?

I wonder if Delegate McDonough shares the same opinion of Florida’s Republican Senator Marco Rubio, since it is his immigration policies that the President has adopted.

Tom Myers –
Actually, Tom, Senator Rubio was on national television and radio shows that same day declaring that the president had over-reached his authority. While you correct that Senator Rubio has proposed, and is currently re-tooling a bill with a similar concept, it is clear that you are unfamiliar with the U.S. Constitution. It is also clear that you have misconceptions about the Republican Party in general. Unlike the Democrats, Republicans think for themselves, individually, and often voice their disagreements with others in the same party.
Sorry, Tom. No kool-aid drinking republicans over here.
The bottom line is that the president does NOT have the authority to do what he did last week.
God bless,

Wait… I thought Reagan did virtually the same thing when he was President… every body applauded him for being so forward thinking. I like a President that can think for himself instead of catering to the whining of his party of a protected class.
RINO Hunter says
Mr. Porter,
Your post betrays utter ignorance of the facts revolving around these two divergent cases. In no way are the two situations analogous. Reagan signed the admittedly misguided Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 into law after it passed Congress. Both houses. You know, that whole “I’m just a bill…sittin’ here on Capitol Hill” thing. You follow?
In contrast, Congress has rejected the DREAM Act. Team Obama hasn’t been successful in getting Congress to comply with one of its pet legislative mandates, so the President decided to bypass that whole pesky legislative process altogether. He foisted the Act upon a hapless American populace all by himself (or should I say, Himself?) Further, he did it in an election year, because he’s struggling to find people still willing to defend his willful tyranny and support his administration.
The problem many people have with this action is not merely the subject matter, although that itself is plenty absurd. It’s the process by which the President enacted it. I know it’s hard to understand the concept when you’re a shill for Obama, but the Constitution still matters.
Tom Myers says
No, Jeff. Republicans turn on their own when they don’t go 100% with the Tea Party hierarchy and take Republicans who actually do think for themselves out of primary contests (i.e.; Lisa Murkowski, Bob Bennett and Dick Lugar).
DNC talking points? says
Tea Party hierarchy, Tom Myers? We should be so lucky. The Tea Party’s a grassroots movement so there’s no hierarchy. Mitt Romney is gonna to be the nominee of the Republican Party. He has nothing in common with Tea Party goers b/c he’s the definition of establishment. So that kinda destroys your theory. Are you suggesting that we shouldn’t have primaries? You think the same tired ppl should just go right onto the general election over & over?
Brian says
What about the little trick that Obama figured he could possibly swing the election by making illegals into citizens so they could all vote for him?
If Bush had pulled that, there would’ve be blood in the streets.
