A lightning strike during a strong storm Thursday afternoon ignited a fire and caused significant damage to a Bel Air home.
Just after 1:30pm Thursday, a fire was reported in the 300 block of South Fountain Green Road in Bel Air. A neighbor discovered the fire in a 16-ft by 20-ft two-car detached garage.
Fifteen firefighters from Abingdon and Bel Air responded and had the fire under control within 10 minutes.
The Office of the State Fire Marshal determined the fire was sparked by a lightning strike and estimated the fire caused $35,000 in damage to the house and an additional $35,000 in damage to its contents.
