Ted Moyer Remembrance Day Proclaimed; Former Career Law Enforcement Officer and Community Leader Honored

Harford County Executive David R. Craig has issued a proclamation in recognition of “Theodore S. “Ted” Moyer Remembrance Day” on Saturday, September 22, 2012. Sheriff Moyer died Monday, September 17 following a lengthy illness.

“Ted Moyer was an outstanding husband, father, community leader, youth mentor and law enforcement officer. During his 83 years he touched many lives through both his community work as a coach and Rec Council leader, as well as his distinguished career with the Maryland State Police and Harford County Sheriff’s Office. Ted was a caring and compassionate person and will be sorely missed,” Craig remarked.

Sheriff Moyer, a native of Washington County, moved to Harford County in 1951 as a young Trooper with the Maryland State Police. He retired in 1981 at the rank of Major and later that year was appointed Sheriff of Harford County. In 1982, Sheriff Moyer was elected to a four-year term and served until 1986.

Following his retirement from law enforcement, Sheriff Moyer continued his support of the Maryland State Police as an active member of the Maryland State Police Alumni Association. Sheriff Moyer was well respected throughout the law enforcement family and was known for “looking out for the Trooper or road Deputy”.

Additionally, Sheriff Moyer was an active member in the Edgewood community and spent countless hours coaching, mentoring and encouraging youth to pursue their dreams. Many of those he coached or mentored later became State Troopers or served in other law enforcement agencies.

“Abraham Lincoln one of our nation’s greatest presidents once said, “Whatever you are be a good one,” Ted Moyer was not just a good one, he was one of Harford County’s finest,” stated County Executive Craig.

To honor the life and contributions of Sheriff Moyer, County Executive David R. Craig ordered all Harford County flags flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Friday, September 21, 2012.
