Dr. Peter Rabins, M.D., M.P.H., co-author of “The 36-Hour Day: A Family Guide to Caring for People with Alzheimer Disease, Other Dementias, and Memory Loss in Later Life,” will speak Thursday, October 18, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Fallston Activity Center, 1707 Fallston Road in Fallston.
Dr. Rabins is the first speaker in the fall Community Conversations: Speaker Series for Caregivers sponsored by Harford County Department of Community Services. The series will provide information and resources to families and caregivers dealing with aging family members.
“The 36-Hour Day” was the first book of its kind when published in 1981. Thirty years later it remains the definitive guide for memory care personnel for someone with dementia. Now in a new and updated edition, this best-selling book features revised chapters on the causes and prevention of dementia, managing the early stages and finding the appropriate living arrangements for the person who has dementia when home care is no longer an option.
Dr. Rabins is the Richman Family Professor for Alzheimer’s and Related Disease and co-director, Division of Geriatric Psychiatry and Neuropsychiatry at Johns Hopkins Medicine. He also serves as director of the Geriatric Psychiatry Program, director of the Geriatric Psychiatry Inpatient Unit and director of Geriatric Psychiatry Mobile Treatment at Hopkins.
