From the Office of the State Fire Marshal:
Deputy State Fire Marshals have made an arrest in reference to a fire which occurred on October 11, 2012 at 214-B Kennard Avenue, Edgewood. The 5:30 a.m. fire involved a one-story, wood frame single family dwelling and caused an estimated $175,000.00 in damages. The fire which was reported by a neighbor brought 30 firefighters from Abingdon, Joppa-Magnolia and Aberdeen Proving Ground. Upon arrival, firefighters made entry, conducted a search of the home and located the owner in the basement. The owner was rescued by firefighters and subsequently transported to Bayview Medical Center by Joppa-Magnolia Fire/EMS.
The investigation by Deputy State Fire Marshals revealed the owner of the property, William E. Lowry, 69, was responsible for intentionally setting the fire on an enclosed deck connected to the home. While Lowry was rescued by firefighters, his dog perished in the fire.
Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Lowry and served the warrant at Harford County Detention Center where Lowry was being held on another unrelated warrant. Lowry has been charged with 1st and 2nd Degree Arson. Lowry will be held at Harford County Detention Center pending a bond review hearing.
If convicted of the charges, Lowry faces up 50 years and/or $80,000.00 dollars in fines.

So sad the dog had to pay the price for his owner’s (alleged) ignorance and stupidity. They should amend the charges to include animal cruelty.
