From Harford County Public Schools:
The Board of Education of Harford County met in an open business meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, December 3, 2012, in the Board Room of the HCPS/A.A. Roberty Building and took the following actions or received the following presentations:
Voted to table the decision on the Havre de Grace Scope Study.
Approved a motion to request the Superintendent to evaluate other options of building either a middle/high school or acquiring other property for Havre de Grace High School.
Approved the Consent Agenda:
1. Affirmation of Monthly Contracts
2. Minutes of Previous Board Meeting: November 19, 2012
3. Award of Contract: Exterior Doors and Hardware at Southampton Middle School
Approved the following Board policies:
– Epinephrine Availability & Use (Policy No. 02-0051-000)
– Gang Related Activities (Policy No. 02-0008-000)
– School Activity Funds (Policy No. 06-0021-000)
Approved the financing of the Energy Performance contract with JPMorgan and Co. at an interest rate of 2.017% for a 17 year period and total interest payments of $2,931,474.19 and the linked Resolution.
Received the Superintendent’s Report:
The AVID program is in year two of implementation at Aberdeen and Havre de Grace middle schools. Both schools were recently visited by the precertification team of the AVID Center Eastern Division and the Program Manager Alberta Banks stated positive comments regarding the observation that she and her team witnessed at both schools with respect to implementation of the program. Dr. Tomback then congratulated both schools on their recognition.
Announced that the next Superintendent’s Budget Input Session will be held this Thursday, December 6th at 5:30 p.m. at the Center for Education Opportunity (CEO) in Aberdeen. The Superintendent’s recommended operating budget will be presented to the Board on Monday, December 17th.
The next regular business meeting of the Board of Education will be held on Monday, December 17th, at 6:30 p.m., at the A.A. Roberty Building in Bel Air. To access all future Board meeting dates, log onto the school system website at www.hcps.org.
In addition, the Superintendent will hold his next public Budget Input Session on Thursday, December 6th at 5:30 p.m. at the Center for Educational Opportunity (CEO) building in Aberdeen located next to Aberdeen High School.
