From the City of Havre de Grace Office of Tourism and Marketing:
Susquehanna Hose Company (SHCO) announces the New Year will have a fireworks show and “Duck Drop” on December 31st at mid-night. The illuminated duck will be dropped by the Susquehanna Hose Company’s 102- foot ladder truck at Firehouse #4 viewed from Havre de Grace Middle School at Lewis Lane. The fireworks, also commencing at the middle school, can be viewed from various locations in Havre de Grace. The Duck Drop became a tradition in 1999 to ring in the millennium and continued through local community support. An exciting family friendly event you will be able to enjoy music and hot chocolate to ring in the New Year.
“The Havre de Grace Community and surrounding area can celebrate New Year’s Eve enjoying a wonderful display of fireworks and the local tradition of watching the lighted Duck Drop,” stated Brigitte Peters, City of Havre de Grace Tourism and Marketing Manager.
In 2012, the Susquehanna House Company honored the upcoming Commemoration of the War of 1812 events with a duck lit in Red, White, and Blue.
In 2013, the New Year’s Eve celebration will honor the Susan G. Komen foundation and breast cancer awareness, as announced, by Ed Grainger with the SHCO, at a recent Havre de Grace Council meeting. In the last few months the Susquehanna Hose Company has been selling t-shirts for the event and they are now available at the Havre de Grace Visitor Center.
The fifteen minute fireworks show is being provided through the generous cooperation of Dennis and Donna Coster of Fireworks Productions, Inc. of Maryland. Donations for the fireworks can be made c/o The Havre de Grace Recreation Committee.
