From the Harford County Health Department:
The Harford County Health Department is a recipient of a Community Transformation Grant (CTG) from the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Funded by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, CTG’s are designed to support community-level efforts to reduce chronic illness such as heart disease, cancer, stroke and diabetes by promoting healthy lifestyles.
Through this grant, the Health Department is partnering with three local elementary schools to plan and implement their own family wellness nights, the purpose of which is to engage families and community members in health and wellness in an active way. The events will offer a variety of physical activity and nutrition-focused stations through which families will rotate over the course of the evening.
Since the main goal of the CTG is to make Harford County a healthier community, we invite collaboration of local media in bringing events such as this to the attention of the public as an integral part in making this transformation happen. Although participation of these events will be limited to students and family members of these elementary schools, we welcome and encourage media coverage.
The dates, locations and times of the wellness nights are as follows:
• Tuesday, January 15, 2013, 5:30PM-7:30PM – William Paca/Old Post Elementary (2706 Philadelphia Road, Abingdon, MD 21009)
