From Harford County Public Schools:
Parents, teens and community members are invited to a cybersafety presentation on Thursday, May 2, at 6:00 p.m. at C. Milton Wright High School to learn more about safe Internet use among today’s teens. Parents will learn indicators and early warning signs that could prevent or stop dangerous Internet activity. Numerous resources will be provided to further educate parents and teens on the dangers of the Internet. Teens will walk away with tips and strategies for safety on the Internet as well as knowledge and understanding of cyber dangers that they may not know exist.

What people don’t understand is that this program was designed to be given to children starting in the 5th grade so that they understood what was out there as far as cybercrimes. This presentation provided by the MSP detective covered websites, file sharing, Xbox live/PSP, and other situations that most parents are unaware hold risks to our children. This wasn’t a matter of “parents need to parent” this was more of an information sharing event that if the school board implements will impower more young persons so that they can protect themselves AND give the information to parents who are unaware that this technology is out there.
It was a great learning tool and opened my eyes to what is out there, things that I never would have thought about. Hopefully the school board members who were in the audience will see this for the positive impact that it is, and not as the elephant in the room.

This generation of parents expects the school system to teach content, morals, responsibility, social skills, and babysit… All of this so they can absolve any responsibility for their child’s behavior and when the kid does something stupid it is the school or teachers fault… Sad
