Six Harford County Sheriff’s deputies are cycling this week from Valley Forge, Pennsylvania to Washington D.C. as part of the Police Unity Tour to remember and raise awareness of police officers across the country that have died in the line of duty. In May 1997, the Police Unity Tour was organized in an effort to bring about public awareness of law enforcement officers that have died in the line of duty, to honor their sacrifices and offer a powerful place of healing for survivors by supporting the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. The premier fund-raising event of the Police Unity Tour Chapter IX is a 250 mile bicycle ride, which started today and runs through May 12, 2013.
Deputies Eric Gonzalez, Andrew Sampson, Javier Moro, Michael Yeagy, Matthew Schueler, and Matthew McGuirk, who are part of Chapter IX [Delaware], left Valley Forge, Pennsylvania earlier today on their way to Washington, DC. Their four day sojourn ends on May 12, when they meet up with over 1000 bicyclists and 300 support members representing Police Unity Tour Chapters from across the country and throughout the mid-Atlantic region. Together they will ride to the Law Enforcement Officer Memorial in an emotional arrival ceremony that will be witnessed by thousands of people.
This year the Police Unity Tour will also stop at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens in Cockeysville where they will participate in a wreath laying ceremony to honor fallen officers from Maryland. This ceremony is expected to take place on May 11th at 11am.

They should give each deputy his own bike–it’s going to be tough, all squishing together on just one.
Well, you know…budget cuts and all…besides, there will be a lot more “unity” on one bike. 😉
The Harford County Sheriff’s Office wants to brag about these six men. They had to ask for donations to find there way from philly to dc. The agency did provide 2 or even 3 motorcycles at times but that should be the least they should do due to the fact the agency lost several of their own this year. They are quick to do a media release but wont disclose anything about a deputy being charged in the wrong for “reckless endangerment”. whatever. But seriously good job to the six brothers in the police unity tour. You should be proud of yourself.
