From Harford County Executive David Craig:
(Bel Air, MD) – – County Executive David R. Craig has issued the following statement regarding the appointment by the Board of Education of Harford County of Barbara P. Canavan as Interim Superintendent of Harford County Public Schools:
“I was delighted to hear that the Board of Education of Harford County wisely chose a long-time teacher and administrator with Harford County Public Schools to serve as the Interim Superintendent of Schools. I have the utmost respect for Barbara Canavan and had the honor and pleasure to work with her for 12 years during my career as an educator with Harford County Public Schools.
Mrs. Canavan has served with dedication, and excellence during her 40 years of selfless service with our school system. She cares deeply for students, faculty members and staff. During her distinguished career Mrs. Canavan has served as a teacher, school-based administrator, and as an executive director with Harford County Public Schools. She has served the school system well and I’m sure will do an outstanding job as the Interim Superintendent of Schools.
As County Executive I pledge my full support to Mrs. Canavan and her leadership team, to help make an already outstanding school system even better”.

HCPS teacher says
Too bad he doesn’t support the teachers as he does Mrs. Canavan.
My congratulations to Mrs. Canavan. Here’s hoping she supports the backbone of our school system, the teachers.
