From the office of State Sen. J.B. Jennings:
Senator J.B. Jennings is proud to announce the recipients of the 2013 7th District Senatorial Scholarships.
These scholarships are awarded to students who are attending Maryland College & Universities. To be considered, the students must demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, extracurricular activities as well as write a personal essay on why they are deserving of such a scholarship. Additionally, students must show a financial need for this scholarship.
This year, Senator Jennings received a record number of applications. In mid-April, he appointed a Senatorial Scholarship Committee to review each application and make their selections. I would like to see their GPA’s and know if these kids parents contributed to his campaign or if they are related to him or one of his associates. I also noticed a lot of siblings included, I don’t see how that is fair to any other family that has been excluded from receiving tax payer funds in the name of the legislator. This practice needs to end, it promotes favoritism and rewards those who are in the know.

That’s a lot of taxpayer funded scholarships. I would like to know how much each student received, and what the total “disbursement” amounted to.

In response to your question, I googled “md senatorial scholarship budget”. See link below,
http://mgaleg.maryland.gov/pubs/budgetfiscal/2014fy-budget-docs-operating-R62I0010-MHEC-Scholarship-Programs.pdf
This is the MD higher education assistance budget for fiscal 2014. For the legislative scholaships, look at the pie chart page 15.
It took five minutes to locate this information. Do some homework.

Did see any one from Aberdeen, Edgewood or HDG on the list.
john-in-the-know says
These are 7th District residents. Edgewood, Aberdeen and HdG are 34th District.

At least he was nice enough to give out these scholarships. I can’t finish my studies at community college and have to wait until I get more of my pell grant in fall until I can continue. This scholarship would help me to transfer quicker and complete my degree faster, but I haven’t heard of any announcements. I am in district 38B and Jim Mathias is my senator and Norm Conway and Michael McDermott are my Delegates. Only got a response email from Del. Conway…
