Mothers of Murdered Sons & Daughters of Maryland Vigil Friday in Edgewood; “Kids Should Not be Dodging Bullets This Summer”

June 26, 2013 By Dagger News Service 16 Comments

From Mildred M. Samy:

THIS PAST WEEKEND WAS ONE OF THE DEADLIEST WEEKENDS IN MARYLAND!!!

EDGEWOOD/HARFORD COUNTY was also affected!!!

VIOLENCE IS REACHING EPIDEMIC PROPORTIONS IN THE U.S.

WE ARE STARTING TO LOOK LIKE A WAR ZONE.

WE ALL HAVE TO JOIN TOGETHER TO END THE VIOLENCE. VIOLENCE CROSSES ALL BARRIERS, IT DOES NOT DISCRIMINATE!

Mothers of Murdered Sons & Daughters of Maryland (M.O.M.S.) SOMEWHAT SENSED THAT THE VIOLENCE WAS ESCALATING IN RECENT WEEKS.

WE ARE PLANNING AN “END OF VIOLENCE COMMUNITY HEALING NIGHT/VIGIL on Friday, June 28, 2013 at 6:30PM at the Edgewater Village – Basketball Court on Brookside Drive, Edgewood, Maryland.

WE CANNOT IGNORE the escalating violence; WE MUST BE PROACTIVE AGAIN. WE THOUGHT WE HAD IT UNDER CONTROL. IT’S SOMETHING WE HAVE TO CONTINUOUSLY WORK ON UNTIL EVERYONE GETS THE MESSAGE.

THIS IS NOT JUST ABOUT EDGEWOOD; IT’S ABOUT ABERDEEN, ABINGDON, BEL AIR, FALLSTON, FOREST HILL, HAVRE DE GRACE, JOPPA/JOPPATOWNE, HARFORD COUNTY, BALTIMORE COUNTY, BALTIMORE CITY,
ALL OF MARYLAND AND EVERY CITY, OF THE U.S. of A.

KIDS SHOULD NOT BE DODGING BULLETS THIS SUMMER!!!

You can visit our website at: www.mothersofmurderedsons-daughtersofmd.com
Or you can visit us on Facebook at: www.facebook.com/momsofmd
May God Bless EDGEWOOD/JOPPATOWNE, HARFORD COUNTY and AMERICA,

Mildred M. Samy

How about getting the fathers to marry the mothers and raise their children properly. Problem solved.

    1) Show your children that the gang/drug lifestyle is not acceptable nor glamorous.
    2) Do not accept illegal behavior of any sort, underage drinking & tobacco use, theft, marijuana, graffiti, etc.
    3) Require they get an education and do their best in school instead of trying to be cool.
    4) Monitor their friends closely, as most kids will follow the same path.
    5) Fight crime, shoot back.

Every summer violent crime rates increase with the heat, vigils will not solve the problem when every rap video on the internet, MTV, BET, etc, shows cash, cars, women, gigantic houses, etc. Kids see drugs and gangs as the quick (or only, depending on their circumstances) path to success and fame, instead of witnessing the benefits of education, perseverance and hard work.

Until a cultural shift happens, and every part of society equally rejects criminal behavior, we will continue to have the cycle of violence in Edgewood and elsewhere in Harford County.

Exactly right. As long as a culture embraces violence, fatherless families, denigrates learning and academic achievement, expects to have everything handed to them for nothing, and blithely accepts mistreatment of women then it’s never going to get better. Look at how Jewish and Asian cultures pursue excellence and achievement while whitetrash and ‘gansta’ lifestyles accept and promote drugs, violence and slovenly living. The well-intentioned people who will attend this ‘vigil’ are not the problem; the thugs and crackheads who will not be there are. And the problems will only get worse. Maryland has just passed some of the most restrictive gun control in the nation and yet a 15 year old punk got a handgun anyway and killed a person . Until the culture that accepts, embraces, and promotes destructive lifestyle changes then the senseless violence will go on. The society that sees welfare, Sec8, foodstamps and obamaphones as a career goal will only sink deeper.

Now we know how the Sheriff will be spending his Friday night. Attending vigils does not solve the problem, Jesse.

Recent violence in Baltimore and Edgewood is the result of this. Black Gorilla family (involved in recent prison scandal) was recently busted up because it came to the public’s attention that they ran the Baltimore Correctional system. The huge uptick in violence is the new turf war that has arisen out of the power vacuum of having the gorillas taken out of “the game” Gangs are fighting to control the turf, and supply of drugs. A real life episode of The Wire. Ask any Baltimore City cop they will tell you this is the case. If you stay out of the drug selling or money-laundering-for-drug-dealers business you wont get shot.

An uptick in violence? Thank goodness those gun control laws go into effect soon, they will surely help people keep from becoming a victim. What do you mean sarcasm isn’t conveyed throgh text? Criminals only continue being criminals because they know they can make people like MOMS quiver in their boots. Stand up and let these people know that the consequences of endangering your neighborhood are dire and run them out like what should have happened a decade ago.

It’s time to stop asking your imaginary friends and the government to change the situation. If people would just raise their kids right instead of letting them act like animals we wouldn’t have so many FUBAR adults.

A vigil will not solve any problems in that area. How bout parenting and disciplining your kids?

I had a job on Brookside Dr and Grempler Way which looked like a warzone with the houses falling apart and the HUGE potholes, trash everywhere, dog poop everywhere, unmowed lawns, and big brother security cameras at every intersection.

When I was out there a flash mob of a dozen high school age black kids gathered around me and started harassing me and calling me racial slurs and I just ignored them, anticipating them to assault me. The cops kept driving by routinely every half an hour and the kids would see the cops coming and behave and as soon as the cops left they’d start again. Luckily I didn’t have a confrontation with the hoodlums, I packed up my gear and left. There were also a bunch of kids from the age of 2-18 running rampant in the streets with no adults around.

That area of Edgewood is a total dump and needs more than prayers. These kids have no respect for anyone or anyone’s property.

As a soon to be father and police officer, my wife and I had apprehensions as to whether or not we wanted to bring a child into this world knowing what this place is turning into. I know not all places are bad, we all know that. But for crying out loud, when does the meaningless violence stop? Penalties for violent crimes should be stiffer, defense attorneys shouldn’t be allowed to make a mockery of our courts and legal system and the courts should deal with right and wrong for a change instead of the courtroom becoming a side show. No child should ever leave their home and have to fear for his or her life at any point in their day. Criminals should be held accountable as well as the parents who allow their children to run wild with no form of discipline and respect for authority. The article is correct, this is an epidemic. Why can’t things just turn around? When will we as a nation realize that we are so much better than this? I wish everyone the best, goodnight dagger peeps…

The comments on this forum is a perfect example of the Harford County attitude regarding minorities and the impoverished. I have been reading foul comments on the Dagger, one story after another. This is supposed to be an event that inspires and you guys have turned it into another opportunity to belittle the community that has endured the most. Shameful, simply shameful.

I believe you are directing your comments toward Marc Eaton, that’s not me, but for the right price I’ll clean the porta-pots by hand! Please spell “clean” correctly next time, misspelling a simply word such as that is inexcusable.
