Harford County Sheriff’s Deputy Recognized at Dedication Ceremony; TESST College of Towson Dedicates Firearms Training Simulator

A Harford County Sheriff’s deputy was one of six police officers recently recognized at a ceremony held by TESST College of Technology in Towson, Maryland. Sgt. Peter Georgiades, along with his family, were the guests of TESST College on July 8th as the College dedicated a firearms training simulator.

According to Gene Tuer, the Department Chairman of TESST’s Criminal Justice Program in Towson, the firearms simulator lab is part of the course of instruction for the college’s Criminal Justice program. Tuer explained the dedication provided the perfect setting to recognize police officers for their commitment to their community and who routinely go above and beyond the call of duty. “These officers are actively in the field every day of the year doing tremendous work in the community”, Tuer said. “Recognizing their accomplishments thru this ceremony will hopefully inspire the next generation of criminal justice professionals to excel as these officers have”, he said. Tuer noted the ceremony was also about the families of the officers, too. “The families of these officers play a key role in supporting them and it is very important we recognize them for the valuable role they play in the careers of these officers”, Tuer said. He added that, said it was great to see Georgiades’s family with him during the ceremony.

Tuer further explained Sgt. Georgiades was nominated for this recognition by Kerwin Miller, Deputy States Attorney for Cecil County. Tuer noted that Miller was familiar with Georgiades work and thought him an excellent choice. “Pete was well-known and well-respected by many in the law enforcement community for his body of work and his work ethic”, Tuer said, adding, “He was such positive reflection of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office that his selection to be recognized was an obvious choice”.

Georgiades is an 8-year member of the Sheriff’s Office. In addition to Patrol, his assignments have included serving as a detective in the Criminal Investigation Division’s Child Advocacy Center where he investigated cases of child sexual abuse, sexual assault and sexual exploitation.

“What an honor for Sgt. Georgiades”, said Sheriff L. Jesse Bane. “It is so rewarding to see him recognized by our peers in the law enforcement community. As a Sergeant he impacts line officers every day and his dedication and commitment to excel sets such a fine example for young officers to emulate. I am very proud to have him as a member of the Sheriff’s Office”, the Sheriff said.
