A Havre de Grace man was rescued from his vehicle after accidentally driving off the City Yacht Basin landing Saturday, and was spared from the water only by the fortunate position of a city-owned barge.
Havre de Grace Police Department spokesman Jeff Gilpin said the incident occurred at approximately 1:52 p.m. when a man in his early 70s drove down the hill into the Havre de Grace City Yacht Basin but, instead of following the traffic pattern to the right, drove to the left toward the water.
Gilpin said the man apparently accelerated rather than braking and drove off the landing. However, the nose of his car caught the corner of a city-owned maintenance barge, which supported the car and suspended it above the icy water.
“That barge saved his life,” Gilpin said.
The man was not injured and no significant damage was reported to either his car or the barge, Gilpin said. There was no indication of impairment or a medical emergency on the part of the driver, Gilpin said, and charges are not currently expected to be filed against him.

We need annual driver re-examinations after ~68 years of age.
Too many old people are driving after it is safe for them to do so.

I actually encounter more younger people who drive recklessly than older ones. In fact, one rear-ended me last month.

That’s because you were stopped at a green light.

LOL

Oh, jackass got jokes. Maybe next time, the driver could be going about 55 or so on 301 instead of 25 and be behind you. Let’s see if you’re joking then.
