The Shadow knows says
Otto Baby,
Hold all bets. Big news is coming that will significantly change Mr. Gahler AKA: “On Point” from 10-1 to a long shot on the board. He has been repeatedly asked one single question about his command staff but refuses to give a simple answer. He could still be a serious competitor if he immediately jettisons some of his associations but he will not do that because he seems to be taking orders from a higher authority who is leading him around by the nose and making him look like a fool. He needs to be his own man and take control of his own destiny and prove that he is not going to be a figure head leader. Look for the news to break later in the spring. Oh, and by the way, the information will be diseminated on forums besides the Dagger for maximum exposure. The voting public should get all of the information before making such an important decision as electing a Sheriff. And as the saying goes, “may the best man win”.
True Blue Man says
Shadow, My money is on John Ryan. He really has his act together and I believe the community will embrace him.
Deputy Dog says
@Shadow
Mr. Gahler has never been shy about taking a stand on his own and has answered the one single question many times. In the letter he wrote to us in the sheriff’s office he said exactly where he stands with Mr. Walter and where he stands on naming his #2. He also pointed out anyone spreading anything other than that is flat out lying.
The Shadow knows says
@Deputy Dog,
I find it interesting that you immediately placed a name behind the higher authority comment. The question asked, still has not, and apparently will not be answered. Mr. Gahler needs to only answer one question. That is where does MRS. Walter fit in to the equation? Not Mr. Walter. It has been asked many times and has never been answered. Why can this question not be answered? Time is ticking away towards spring. Sorry, but there will be no more clues given out. A good piece of advise for Mr. Gahler is that a bomb is much easier to defuse before it goes off.
True Blue Man says
How about Gayler as John Ryan command staff. Boy that would be some ticket.
OnPoint says
Thanks for the compliment. I wish I could write as well as Mr. Gahler. I for one cannot wait to see Gahler and Bane go at it one on one.
Blue Iguana says
Shadow know you know that Teresa Walter will be a fine Chief of Staff. Do you have something against police women?
The Shadow knows says
@ Blue Iggy,
Are we now going to start playing the gender card? Please stop. It was a nice try, but I said no more clues. Sorry, won’t happen. Just wait for the news to drop in the spring. The clock is ticking. Tick tick tick tick…
Blue Iguana says
Shadow,,,,,,Does Teresa Walter do a good job in Havredegrace Maybe she should run for sheriff. I don’t understand
Mike Welsh says
Of course the clock is ticking, and it will continue to tick all the way to election day. Mr. Gahler will do exactly what he has said (in writing by the way) he will do when it comes to naming the person that would be his second in command. And so it goes… tick, tick tick.
Has Sheriff Bane named who his second in command will be. I am hearing that if Bane is reelected he intends to name Major Presberry as his second in command.
Blue Iguana says
Who is this Presbery? Maybe Walter and Presbery should run together?
I give up says
@ Mike Welsh,
Why don’t you have Mr. Gahler publish on the Dagger this written explanation that you keep making reference to. I am sure that the voters would like to see it for their own clarification before making such an important decision as electing a Sheriff. Hopefully Mr. Walter will permit him to do that. I along with many other people have predicted your upcoming response.
RealCop says
Why don’t you ask Mr. Ryan to share the letter? He should have it if Gahler’s supporters are being honest about its existence. Of course if it does exist that would make it obvious that most of you Ryan (Bane Puppet) supporters are lying your as _ _ _ off.
I give up says
@ Real Cop
First of all I support no one. I am only interested in who will best serve the men and women of the HCSO, and in trying to identify others that may have their own personal agendas. I believe that it was said in prior post that the written passage that the Gahler supporters keep talking about was written to the Sheriff’s Union. Why doesn’t Mr. Gahler, in the interest of honesty and transparency, share this letter of his political intentions with all of the voters. It would probably add clarity to this whole situation. Maybe if he asked Mr. Walter very nicely he will be allowed to print it. Suggestion, try this “Please, Pretty Please with Sugar on Top.”
Mike Welsh says
Makes no difference to me if he posts the letter or not. What will make a difference is if he names his second in command choice prior to the election as he stated he would. If he does, and I believe he will, then it will be up to the voters to decide if he is the better choice or not. If he doesn’t, then he will have to live with the consequences of not having done so.
I would expect the same from Sheriff Bane. He should be expected to name who his second in command will be prior to the election. From what I am hearing, his choice will not be a popular one among the deputies.
The informed blue badge says
John Ryan and Bob peck are working hard to expose the competition. Something new and fresh is needed.
Deputy Dog says
Ryan and Peck are no more than pawns for Bane and their true colors (hint not true blue) are more and more clear everyday. Two people who never aspired to supervise even one person jump into a race to bash Mr. Gahler without a word about the current sheriff and the hardships he has brought on all of us. Hopefully people see through Banes dirty politics and focus on the the two that matter.
The informed blue badge says
Disagree met john Ryan and like his Harford county style. Peck seems like a real libertarian Might be what’s needed. Lots of negative talk about Gahler and union ties.
Blue panties says
Deputy dog. Go fetch a bone. bane will win easily The people love him and the deputies hate Walter the election is over
Reelect the Sheriff says
This election is not over. The Sheriff realizes he has lost the support of many of his deputies and that they will be out in the community working towards his defeat. That is why we need all of those who voted for Sheriff Bane in the past to continue to work hard for his re-election. You will hear stories about how Sheriff Bane mistreated some of his employees. Don’t believe what you hear. Those employees deserved the punishment that Sheriff Bane and his senior commanders imposed.
Boot Bane says
When you have lost the confidence of your employees it is time to step aside. The only thing holding L. Jesse in place is senility. He has lied to, mistreated, and shown favoritism to the extend he is no longer trusted. The only thing sadder is how he will feel the day his employees throw him out.

Why did I get a robo call from Ed Hopkins of the Sheriff’s Department saying not to be alarmed but the new helicopter will be flying over Fallston doing a test run. It will be clearly marked with the sheriffs insignia. What exactly is it they need to test at the rate of $300 per hour
Mike Welsh says
I seriously doubt they are testing anything. This is just pure advertisement (think political) and really has nothing to do with the HCSO actual mission. After the flight, you will probably find that a press release will go to news outlets talking about the “test flight” and how the helicopter will soon be operational and on guard to protect the citizens of Harford County. It is an election year. You are quite right however that the cost will be somewhere above the $300 per hour mark! Nothing like using your money to campaign for the Sheriff’s reelection!!
Pavel314 says
I’m not a big fan of the helicopter purchase but I do hope they thoroughly test its handling and capabilities before they have to use it in an actual emergency.
Mike Welsh says
You would think they had already done that prior to acquisition. Why would you acquire something as expensive as a helicopter and not know how it handled or what its capabilities were. But you may be 100% correct, Sheriff Bane and his senior staff may not have known.
