Firefighters from around Harford County confronted a series of fires and other incidents on Sunday.
Aberdeen Building Seriously Damaged Sunday Morning
An Aberdeen building sustained severe damage in a fire which broke out shortly before noon Sunday morning, according to investigators.
The fire broke out in a second-floor bedroom of the SAFE – Sober Recovery center on North Philadelphia Boulevard in Aberdeen, according to a release from the Office of the State Fire Marshal. A total of 60 firefighters from the Aberdeen, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Havre de Grace, and Level fire companies responded and brought the blaze under control in approximately 30 minutes.
The cause of the fire is under investigation; the structure sustained an estimated $100,000 in damage, while damages to its contents were estimated at $50,000. A total of 12 occupants were displaced and are staying with family and friends until additional housing is available, the state fire marshal’s office said.
Man Injured in Small Kitchen Fire at Edgewood Home
A Edgewood man sustained burns to several areas of his body following an accident in the kitchen of his home Sunday night.
According to a release from the Office of the State Fire Marshal, Frank Moore of the 200 block of Palmetto Drive in Edgewood sustained second-degree burns to his right hand, left wrist, face and forehead after a can of Pam cooking spray was accidentally left on the stove, overheated, and exploded.
The Abingdon Volunteer Fire Company responded to the scene, and Moore was transported to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center for treatment and evaluation. His home sustained approximately $500 in damages.
Abingdon Home Damaged in Accidental Early Sunday Morning Blaze
An Abingdon home was seriously damaged early Saturday morning in an accidental fire traced to discarded ashes from a fireplace.
The fire was reported in the sunscreen porch of a home in the 800 block of Long Bar Harbor Road just after 2:30 a.m. Saturday, according to a release from the Office of the State Fire Marshal. A total of 45 firefighters from the Abingdon, Joppa-Magnolia, Bel Air, Aberdeen, Aberdeen Proving Ground fire companies brought the blaze under control in about 25 minutes.
Investigators determined the accidental fire was sparked by improperly discarded ashes from a fireplace. Damage to the structure was estimated at $50,000, and damages to its contents was estimated at $10,000.
