A Jarrettsville couple were able to escape through the basement after the house in which they resided caught fire early Tuesday morning, but a number of pets living in the home were not as fortunate.
Just before 3 a.m. Tuesday morning, emergency personnel were dispatched to the 3900 block of Norrisville Road in Jarrettsville for a reported dwelling fire in a two-story, single family house.
Two of the occupants of the home, who resided in the basement, discovered the fire on the basement side porch. Both were able to escape by exiting through the basement steps, calling 911, and alerting the other occupants. Three cats perished as a result of the fire.
Forty firefighters from the Jarrettsville Volunteer Fire Company responded to the single-alarm blaze and had it under control within 30 minutes.
The preliminary cause of the fire was blamed on discarded smoking material.
The Office of the State Fire Marshal estimated the fire caused $250,000 in damage to the structure and another $50,000 to its contents. A smoke alarm was present and operated.

“Two of the occupants of the home, who resided in the basement”
That is zoning code speak for illegal occupancy.

Really sorry about the cats, however why are all these fires occurring in Jarrettsville around audit and investigation season, sacrificing cats for the insurance money on illegal HUD property, Wow you devils are shameless, good luck when the inspector General gets done with you, I guess instead of selling the bogus property that you Racketeered, burn it down then have you local buddies with the fire dept. cover it up, good luck cause its deep fried TURKEY season, and for the collateral damage of the cats,,, Well I hope they haunt you! Nice try but investigation is still on! Glad no human life was taken, thank God!

RICO, smoke on brother…
Crystal says
Shame on all of you. This home belongs to family friends and the residents were 2 seniors, a mom and her baby. Just because the daughter lives in the “basement” bedroom area with her baby does not equate to it being an illegal HUD property burned for insurance money. We are lucky they escaped and unfortunate that the cats became trapped. It is Christmas and they lost their beautiful home they worked hard all their lives for. The Cynacism today is disgusting. They are longtime residents who lost their home, belongings and their beloved cats. Shame shame shame on all of you. I’m sure none of you smoke or drink , no drugs or ever made a mistake, right, so you could pass judgement ? Karma …

RICO, Nothing here about animal rights…just the fact, humans survived but the beloved pets did not. You are grabbing at straws to try to save face.
