Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford’s 4th Annual Brawl & Ball Gala at Beechtree Golf Club

The fourth annual gala to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County, “Brawl & Ball” will feature ballroom dancing and exquisite food. The event will be held at the Beechtree Golf Club from 6pm-11pm on Saturday, October 3, 2009.

“Brawl & Ball is a first-class event to raise funds for our Boys & Girls Clubs while providing a unique evening of quality entertainment for all who attend,” says event chair Diane Smith. “This year’s exquisite menu has been specially planned by Beechtree’s own Chef Manny Martinez and is sure to exceed all expectations.”

A cigar roller from Pennsylvania will be on site after dinner to hand make cigars for guests to enjoy. Fight Hunger and Celebrate Harford County Day at LPGA

(Havre de Grace, MD) – - The McDonald’s LPGA Championship has raised over $46 million for the Ronald McDonald house and other children’s charities over the past 28 years. On Friday, June 12, 2009, is Harford County Day, and the tournament will be offering free admission to patrons who bring four non-perishable food items to the gate.

Thanks to a special partnership with Tyson Foods, the McDonald’s LPGA Championship will be donating all received items to the Harford Community Action Agency and the Maryland Food Bank. Join us in the fight against hunger by participating in this special event. Maryland families need your help!

Appel Records First Eagle of the Season as Harford Golf Team Finishes Competition at NJCAA National Championship

SCOTTSBORO, Ala.—Sophomore Chris Appel (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) rallied from three strokes down behind freshman teammate Anthony Vincenti (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) to finish as the top finisher for the Harford golf team at the 2009 NJCAA Division II National Championships on Friday at Goose Pond Colony.

Appel went into the final round with a 235, third on the team behind sophomore Tony Tiburzi’s (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco) 234 and Vincenti’s 232, but shot a team-low 76 during the fourth day, which saw the Fighting Owls’ only eagle of the season as Appel shot two-under on the par 5 seventh hole.

The team leader would also birdie the 10th and 15th holes, marking the third time in four rounds that he shot one-under on the par 5 15th and besting his three-birdie output in the second round to finish with a 311 (82, 75, 78, 76), which was good for a tie ...Continue Reading

Appel Shoots Team-Low 75 for Harford Golf Team on Second Day of NJCAA National Tournament

SCOTTBSBORO, Ala.—Freshman Anthony Vincenti (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) leads the Harford golf team with a 154 (76, 78) after two rounds at the 2009 NJCAA Division II National Tournament at Goose Pond Colony in Scottsboro, Ala.

Vincenti shot a 78 on Tuesday’s second round to go with a 76 on Monday and is tied for 70th overall after two days. Vincenti birdied the sixth hole on day one and shot an even 38 on the back and front nine to finish with a 78, while posting a 40 on the way out on the second day and birdieing two par 5’s on the 10th and 15th holes to shoot a 38 on the way back for a 76.

Harford Golf Opens Season with Forfeit Win over Frederick

ABERDEEN, Md.—The Harford golf team opened the 2009 season with a 310 forfeit win over Frederick on a frigid, snow-flurried Tuesday at Ruggles Golf Course at Aberdeen Proving Ground. The Fighting Owls (1-0) were led by sophomore Tony Tiburzi (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco), who shot a 75 on the day.

Tiburzi shot a 39 on the way out, with a birdie on holes three and nine, before scoring an even 36 on the back nine, as he birdied the 18th. Freshman Anthony Vincenti (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) finished just behind Tiburzi with a 76 for the round, shooting 38 on both the front and back nine and birdieing holes six and nine.

Sophomore Chris Appel (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) and freshman Mike Tavik (Perry Hall, Md./Calvert Hall) rounded out the Harford scoring with a 79 and 80, respectively, with Tavik recording two birdies, while the Cougars (0-1) two man team ...Continue Reading

“Taste of Harford” presents $7,500 to Fisher House

Silver Springs, MD (March 3, 2009)—On the grounds of Walter Reed Army Medical Center, McDonald’s LPGA Championship Executive Director, Alice Miller, and Harford County Director of Economic Development, James Richardson, representing the tournament’s Taste of Harford event, presented Fisher House Foundation, Inc. with a check for $7,500.

Harford County Sports Promoted At National Conference

(Bel Air, MD) Harford County Tourism and Marketing Manager, Wini Roche, attended the Travel, Events and Management in Sports (TEAMS) Annual Conference and Expo held in Pittsburgh, PA at the end of October. Ms. Roche joined other tourism leaders from around the state to promote Harford County and Maryland to the national sports travel industry.

McDonald’s LPGA Championship Donates To Local Schools

Aberdeen, MD (October 1, 2008)—Students and administrators at Aberdeen High School’s Science and Mathematics Academy, along with Bel Air High School officials representing Project Lead The Way, and representatives from Ronald McDonald House Charities®, assembled at Aberdeen High School today for a check presentation ceremony— all beneficiaries of the 2008 McDonald’s LPGA Championship and The Taste of Harford.

McDonald’s LPGA Championship Director of Business Development, Peter Wilder, and Harford County Executive, David R. Craig, along with Wini Roche, Harford County Tourism Director, presented each high school with a check for $7,500 to support their science, math, and engineering technology programs. The tournament and county officials also presented Ronald McDonald House Charities with a check for $30,000.
