The Harford County Public Schools (HCPS) Grants Office, in conjunction with Roye-Williams Elementary School in Havre de Grace, recently applied for, and was awarded, a $300,000 grant called EAGLES AIM from the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA). The grant, which began September 1, 2009, and will run through August 31, 2012, was established as part of the Promoting Student Achievement at Schools Impacted by Military Force Structure Changes program.
Funds from this grant will provide intervention for reading and math to the military children at Roye-Williams Elementary School, which is home to many students from military families including the children of Department of Defense civilian contractors and Aberdeen Proving Ground. (Bel Air, MD) – - Over 125 students, parents, teachers and administrators attended a career and internship program to explore opportunities at Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG). This was a “pilot project” hosted by Bel Air High School in partnership with the Harford County Office of Economic Development, the Susquehanna Workforce Network, and Army Alliance, Inc.
Students were presented with information about Aberdeen Proving Ground and the current jobs on Post as well as the future opportunities as it relates to the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) with the additional 8,200 positions that are a result of BRAC.
Attendees were able to meet one-on-one with the 16 APG organizations and defense contractors to learn about internships offered in their senior year and during college as well as explore various careers.

While American families begin preparing to celebrate their family traditions and homecomings for the Thanksgiving Holiday, Delegate J.B. Jennings (R-7th Legislative District), members of the Towson Elks Lodge No. 469, and several volunteers gave their thanks by spending their evening serving Thanksgiving dinners to United States Veterans.
On Thursday, November 19th, Delegate Jennings and others volunteered their time to provide a holiday dinner for the Veterans from the Greens Street and Loch Raven VA Medical Centers at the Elks Lodge No. 469, located in Towson, Maryland.
Every year, the Towson Elks Lodge hosts a Thanksgiving Dinner for Veterans spanning from WWII, the Korean War, Vietnam, and the Gulf War, as gesture of appreciation and honor for their sacrifices and service to our Country. Havre de Grace resident Juanita L. Warman was among the 13 people killed in Thursday’s shooting at Fort Hood in Texas, according to national media reports.
While Warman and the dozen others who died in Thursday’s attack have not yet been officially named by the Department of Defense, their names, Warman’s included, are slowly filtering out as family and friends are notified.

Kreiner, Sr., a retired lieutenant with the United States Navy, will conclude his service with the Harford County Commission on Veteran Affairs on March 20, 2009. Kreiner has served on the commission since November 1999 when he was appointed by County Executive James M. Harkins.
“Ed Kreiner has been a valuable member of the Commission on Veteran Affairs and a true crusader for all veterans,” remarked County Executive David R.
