DNR Partners With Perryville To Improve Public Access to Susquehanna

From the Maryland Department of Natural Resources:

PERRYVILLE, Md. (December 22, 2009) — The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Water Improvement Fund has partnered with Perryville to increase tourism and stimulate the local economy, while increasing public access to the Susquehanna River. With $618,950 from the Waterway Improvement Fund, Perryville recently awarded a contract worth approximately $1.14 million to construct a new boating pier and twelve boat slips to Maryland based contractor Dissen and Juhn.

“This is a wonderful project that will both help the local economy as well as expand public access to the Susquehanna,” said DNR Director of Boating Services Bob Gaudette.

The new pier will be 575 feet long, and 10 feet wide, with a gangway connecting to a floating dock system that will provide 12 new boat slips for visiting boaters. Residents will also enjoy access to the pier for nature watching and town events. Construction will begin ...Continue Reading

The Dagger | Harford County News With an Edge: Latest post

After his debut last week, Ilya the Floridian manatee seems to have taken a liking to the Susquehanna River and has recently made appearances on the shores of both Cecil and Harford County.

A Perryville Town Commissioner snapped photos of the wayward sea cow last Wednesday and a group of Havre de Gracians greeted the manatee with cameras and open arms Sunday afternoon when it surfaced near some condominiums.

Officials from the National Aquarium in Baltimore continue to monitor the manatee’s movements and urge people to take precautions to keep themselves and Ilya safe.

The Dagger | Harford County News With an Edge: Latest post

While his ride never came to a stop, President-Elect Barack Obama, with Joe Biden by his side, smiled, waved and even interacted with a few people, which was good enough for the thousand or so gathered at the Edgewood train station who had waited hours in the stinging cold Saturday to catch a glimpse of the soon-to-be president aboard the train that would eventually take him to Washington D.C. for Tuesday’s inauguration.

At just about 3 p.m. Saturday, after a few toots of its horn announced its presence, the Obama Express, crawling along at about 1 mph rather than its normal 50 mph travel speed, cruised into view of the Edgewood MARC station. After enduring hours of freezing temperatures and several false alarms, the crowd grew eager and anxious as the train cars continued to crawl along.

By the time the crowd realized it was finally happening, it was already nearly over.

The Grist Mill In Perryville: Over The River And Through The Woods For Fine Dining

FROM THOSE HUNGRY GOURMETS….JIMMY AND GUY STILLWELL

The big mirror behind the bar declares…” Eat Well….Drink Well” and well, that’s what we came here for…well, that and the Wallis Boys…who make music and entertain the folks. Our foray to the Grist Mill on a Friday evening was a pleasant experience and we recommend it for all.

Back when it was the Island Inn we ventured forth and nearly got the hell beat out of us. Since then, Mike Andrews and Erik Lidums, took on the old gal and renovated the entire joint, save the beer box directly under the big mirror.

Rustic early American décor lends the visitor a chance to feel comfy, not crowded with a fine dining room, elegant bar and good service. Best of all is the chef, Mike, who puts forth some mighty fancy and delicious entrees.

Tonight I had the seared medallions of pork tenderloin, drizzled with ...Continue Reading
