WASHINGTON, DC – On Thursday, February 18, U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski and Congressman Frank Kratovil (both D-Md.) will join Harford County Executive David Craig and members of Harford County’s Emergency Operations Center to announce a major new federal investment in Harford County’s public safety communications technology project.
The project will equip Harford’s first responders with new technology that will allow them to communicate in a safe, seamless and compatible way. The improved technology will help Harford’s first responders enhance security, share information and save lives.
The event will culminate in a tour of Harford’s Emergency Operations Center, which serves a population of nearly 240,000 people, and responds to emergencies within a 450 square mile area.

Harford County Executive David R. Craig is warning all area businesses and homes with flat roofs of the dangers of collapse due to accumulating snow and possible heavy rains forecasted later in the week.
The storm last weekend resulted in almost two feet of snow. Flat roofed buildings are extremely susceptible to collapse from the weight of heavy snow, especially if followed by heavy rain which is tentatively forecasted for later this week. On the advice of building code officials across the state, residents and property owners are urged to take the necessary steps to remove snow from flat roofs now, before heavy rains come later this week.

The Apartment and Office Building Association of Metropolitan Washington (AOBA) has announced that Harford County State Delegate Donna Stifler (R, Distict 35A) will be honored on November 13 with an Outstanding Leadership Award for her tenacious pursuit of legislation to ensure the safety of elevators in the State of Maryland.
The non-partisan legislation which was signed into law by the Governor after the 2009 Legislative Session brings Maryland in-line with its surrounding jurisdictions and allows the use of third party inspectors. The new law not only reduces State expenditures and eliminates the backlog of inspections, but, more importantly, increases the safety of the vertical riding public.

(July 10, 2009, Bel Air, MD) — Sergeant Joseph VanSeeters of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office was honored Tuesday, June 23, 2009 during the National Sheriffs’ Association Annual Conference in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He was the 2008 recipient of the J. Stannard Baker Award for Highway Safety, which recognizes individual law enforcement officers and others who have made significant achievements in highway safety. The award is sponsored by the National Sheriffs’ Association, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Nationwide Insurance, and the Northwestern University Traffic Institute.
