From the Office of the State Fire Marshal:
HARFORD COUNTY, MD. (February 15, 2015)- Deputy State Fire Marshals conducted a fire origin and cause investigation earlier today after being requested to respond to the Upper Chesapeake Medical Center.
At approximately 1:07 p.m., the automatic fire alarm activated and staff reported to the Harford County 911 Center that a fire existed in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab at 500 Upper Chesapeake Boulevard in Bel Air. The Upper Chesapeake Medical Center is a four story hospital facility. The Catheterization Lab is situated on the ground floor.
Fire Departments from Bel Air, Abingdon, and Fallston responded to the scene with 20 firefighters. Prior to fire department arrival, a single sprinkler head activated and extinguished the fire. There was no structural damage to the hospital.
The fire originated in a utility room which housed specialty equipment to operate the Cath Lab. The fire was determined to be accidental as a result of an electrical failure with-in the power supply to the Cath Lab table.
No Cath procedure was taking place at the time of the fire and no other injuries were reported. Damage to the equipment in the utility room is estimated at $700,000.00 dollars. Now, companies are looking to invest in a fire sprinkler installation because of the incident.

A heart stopping story. Thanks, glad everyone is ok involved in it. Thank you as well to the Volunteers who responed as usual. We citizens are grateful for your service.

Did you read the article? A single sprinkler head extinguished the fire prior to the fire depts. arrival, they just performed janitorial clean-up duties afterwards. Lets give thanks to the company that installed the sprinkler system.

You’re such an idiot, I’m sorry. First post had a bit of humor and then yes I read the article, but the Volunteers, yes VOLUNTEERS responded as they do to all calls. How about YOU go volunteer and risk your safety for next to nothing? You’re a pathetic person who needs some professional mental health assistance. Have a nice day, if you can, without slamming a comment like a nice day…..God Bless You and be with your soul.

Welcome to the internet. You got butt hurt and couldn’t stand someome else’s comment. Wow, people have different opinions than you? Wow.
The only person that needs mental health help is you.
Hedley Lamarr says
I’m sure clearing is used to being Butt hurt.
Clearing Things Up says
Not at all, invite all inteligent comments. Sadly yours doesn’t come anywhere close to that. Try some psych medication, it may help you.
Hedley Lamarr says
Lets “Clear Some Things Up”, so 20 volunteer firefighters received credit towards a retirement benefit for a fire that was out and did some clean-up BS.
Clearing Things Up says
Do you volunteer? Have the stones too? Don’t think so……
Open your eyes says
Harford county is blessed with having so many dedicated heroes willing to volunteer their time to perform fire, rescue, and EMS. The money they save the taxpayers is greatly appreciated. I am not in the fire service but have known many who are. Your comment about receiving credits toward a retirement and the innuendo was a little unfair. The men and women of the volunteer fire service receive points for attending training drills, assists, and actually being physically at a scene. If they make it to their station or beyond they receive credits documenting their volunteer service. Those points subsequently add up and are calculated into their small but well earned pension. It is extremely unfortunate what happened to your grandparents but please don’t blame all volunteers. 99.99999999% of them are extremely dedicated heroes who I thank God that we have helping us.
Hedley Lamarr says
I’ll go with that.
wonderer says
Wonder what started it? Think someome was smoking weed?
Didn’t that group ban cigarettes? Bark up a joint of decriminalized Maryland funny smoke instead?
Hedley Lamarr says
$700,000 in damage?? or was it losses, like did something end up on the firetruck and in someones garage??
h says
$700,000 loss? After looking over my medical bill that would mean they lost a bed pan, 2 boxes of kleenex and a lunch order.
Clearing Things Up says
Good one, thanks for the laugh, but not too far from the truth…LOL
Clearing Things Up says
Wow, you are really full of hate, aren’t you?
Hedley Lamarr says
Let me Clear Some More Things Up, Unfortunately my Grandparents home caught fire a number of years ago, there is some debate what caused more damage, the amateurs who showed up to put the fire out or the fire itself. What I can tell you the fire did not empty out their jewelry boxes of gold rings, gold diamond rings, gold chains and some other items that were handed down over the years, amazingly the jewelry boxes were found in perfect condition but were empty
Clearing Things Up says
Seeing your history on hear and not going too far out on a limb, one may assume the apple you are fell close to a tree? Anyone investigate your grandparents? Perhaps a burglary was committed and a fire set to it? How’s it feel when someone slams yu or your family with comments? Not too nice. Seek refuge from prayer perhaps.
Clearing Things Up says
Ooops, spell check hiccup…”here”
Hedley Lamarr says
Sounds like you have had experience in covering things up, you must be one of the amateurs that pockets items after a fire. And it sounds like your a born again zealot, we know what that means.
Clearing Things Up says
I’d like to issue a public apology. I want to say I am sorry for the demeanor of my comments, from here on out, I will become a better citizen.
The Real Clearing Things Up says
Thanks for using my handle, but I stand by my opinions. How old are you? Use your own name please.
Slanky says
Wahhh, Wahhh. This is my name, not yours. Crybaby.

I for one would gladly pay extra taxes for a paid professional fire department that includes inside fire fighters. So tired of watching houses in this county burn to the ground. You tube is littered with videos of volunteers standing outside holding hoses and many just standing around doing nothing.
