WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.) announced today that the Harford County Public Schools’ Department of Curriculum Instruction and Magnet Programs has been awarded a $143,000 Fund for the Improvement of Education (FIE) grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
The Harford County Public School district offers a specialized homeland security and emergency preparedness program (HSEP) at Joppatowne High School. The program prepares students to meet the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) impacted workforce needs in the county by training future workers in the science and technology fields. BRAC will bring between 45,000 to 60,000 new jobs to Maryland, leading to significant career opportunities in science and technology.

Aberdeen Proving Ground Science & Technology Showcase 2009
June 17-18, Harford Community College, Bel Air, MD
Aberdeen Proving Ground’s Research, Development and Engineering Command (RDECOM) will be showcasing Army science and technology at Harford Community College’s Amoss Center on Wednesday and Thursday between 7:30 AM-4:30PM and Thursday, June 18, 2009.
Participants include the Army Research Laboratory, the Communications-Electronics Research, Development, and Engineering Center, and the Edgewood Chemical Biological Center. They will display technologies such as innovative power solutions that make the Soldier faster and lighter, unmanned autonomous systems, and a robot that conducts sampling and detection of chemically contaminated surfaces.
Army representatives will be discussing contract and funding opportunities for technology-focused entrepreneurs, researchers, and education officials.

(Bel Air, MD – January 30, 2009) – - The Economic Development Advisory Board (EDAB) of Harford County, MD took another step toward the expansion of the technology incubator program in the County by adopting a resolution today at its meeting which named a five-member Incubator Development Task Force.
“The work of the Incubator Development Task Force will drive the next generation of incubators in Harford County”, said EDAB Chairman Eric McLauchlin.
This Task Force will report progress on the technology incubation program to the EDAB Technology Sub Committee on a regular basis. The recently released Harford County Technology Development Optimization and Action Plan provides for a phased expansion of the County’s existing business incubator program.

(Bel Air, MD – December 11, 2008) – - The Harford County Office of Economic Development (OED), in its first step toward implementing the 2008 Technology Development Optimization and Action Plan for Harford County has contracted with international management services firm ANGLE Technology to expand the County’s business incubation program to better meet the needs of technology-oriented businesses. The Technology Development Plan, which was announced by Harford County Executive David R. Craig in November 2008, emphasizes the importance of building the County’s technology and entrepreneurial base through business incubation.
“By expanding the County’s business incubation program, we position the County to build a larger, diversified, defense-oriented AND commercial technology businesses base,” said David R. Craig, Harford County Executive.
