The following was received by Dave Schwartz, state director of Americans for Prosperity-Maryland:
Grassroots free-market group Americans for Prosperity (AFP) was happy to see the Harford County Council provide tax relief to the property owners of Harford County on Friday evening. By a unanimous vote, the Council decided to cut the proposed property tax rate.
“The Council members deserve praise,” said Dave Schwartz, state director of AFP-Maryland. “The Council realized that Harford citizens’ homes are not permanent piggy banks. Unlike many of our state and national legislators, they understand while taxpayers are trimming their budgets during the recession, the government needs to do the same.”
AFP worked extensively with the “Harford Property Tax Revolt” coalition to push for the Council and County Executive David Craig to adopt the “constant yield” property tax rate. “Constant yield” is the rate at which the county government would have collected the ...Continue Reading
The Harford County Council held a meeting [Tuesday] night at the Council Chambers. Approximately 50 budget protesters walked around the building and passing cars honked their support from 6:00PM all throughout the meeting.
Upon catching wind of another “tax revolt” being planned, in conjunction with the Harford County Council meeting in Bel Air Tuesday night, the County Executive’s office launched a counter-offensive this week – ordering pro-budget paraphernalia to be printed and recruiting members of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office to fill the council chambers with support for the budget.
The TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party on Tuesday is being arranged by the same group who organized the effort in Havre de Grace last month. With tax day now in the books, the group is focusing on another little-understood and often incorrectly-attributed tax increase – the constant yield tax rate.

The following letter was received from the office of Del. Rick Impallaria:
Harford County Tea Party – Tuesday, May 19, 2009, 6 pm
On Tuesday, May 19, at 7 pm the Harford County Council will be discussing the County Executive’s proposed budget. This is the time when citizens can come and make comments about the budget.
In connection with this, a Tea Party has been scheduled for 6 pm at the County Council Building, 212 S. Bond St., Bel Air. People should arrive 5:30-6:00 with their protest signs. This is a high traffic area and will be very visible to passers-by. This is also an opportunity to bring your children to get an early lesson in participating in our free speech rights of protest.

Taxes. No one enjoys paying them. Few feel they get enough back for what they pay out in them. Yet they remain one of life’s great certainties – you will eventually die, but until that day, you’ll keep paying more and more taxes.
Spawned in the midst of economic recession and fueled by mistrust of how lawmakers on national and state levels are responding to the financial crisis, a grassroots tax protest movement has been started.
On April 15, dozens of Taxed Enough Already (TEA) Party National Protest rallies will be held across the United States, and at least two right here in Harford County.
