Lockdown at Mountain Christian Church and School In Joppa Resolved

From the Harford County Sheriff’s Office:

(Joppa, MD – February 2, 2010) On February 2, 2010 at approximately 12:45pm, Harford County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call from Mountain Christian Church and School officials for a report of an armed stranger inside the building.

Information received from the caller indicated two younger students reported to their teacher seeing a lady in the building that they did not recognize, who possibly had a gun. Upon notification from the students, the school immediately implemented its emergency action plan triggering an automatic law enforcement response.

Within minutes of the call, Harford County Sheriff’s Office deputies were on scene and assisted school officials in implementing the plan. The situation was mitigated by 1:45pm, after a search of the school and ground located no intruder.

Harford Sheriff’s Office 2010 Citizens’ Police Academy Enrollment Open

(Bel Air, MD – January 19, 2010) The Harford County Sheriff’s Office is once again offering Harford County residents the opportunity to attend the annual Citizens Police Academy – a 15 week program designed to provide residents with a better understanding of the Sheriff’s Office and its operations and to foster a partnership between the Sheriff’s Office and the communities it serves.

This year’s academy, which is free of charge, will be held every Tuesday evening beginning March 2, 2010 through June 10, 2010, and is open to any Harford County resident 18 years of age or older. Community groups, businesses and elected officials also are encouraged to nominate individuals to participate.

Harford Sheriff’s Office Receives Grant Targeting School Bus Safety

(Bel Air, MD – January 5, 2010) The Harford County Sheriff’s Office has received a grant provided by the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention, to target motorists who fail to stop for school buses that have their red lights flashing.

Over 34,000 Harford County students ride a bus to and from school each day. This grant enhances the Sheriff’s Office enforcement efforts of the state law requiring motorists to stop their vehicles when they approach a school bus with its red lights flashing.

“Our goal is to keep our children safe,” said Sgt. Joseph VanSeeters, Supervisor of the Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit. “This grant will provide the funding for a deputy to follow school buses where we have identified a chronic problem of violations.”

Harford County Sheriff’s Office Announces Graduation of 27th Entrance Level Law Enforcement Class

(Harford County, MD – December 24, 2009) The Harford County Sheriff’s Office Training Academy held commencement exercises Wednesday, December 9, 2009 for the recruits of Entrance Level Class 27. The class, comprised of fifteen Harford County deputies, and one officer from the Bel Air Police Department, graduated after a rigorous program of intensive law enforcement and criminal justice training that began in June 2009. As part of their required training and certification, police recruits received extensive firearms training, Deputy Mark Jordan received the Firearms Proficiency Award for the class. Deputy Brett Smoot was named class valedictorian for his best overall scores. Deputy Tyler Vass was selected by his peers to place the ceremonial class flag onto the “guide on”, an honor bestowed on him by his fellow classmates.

A minute may not seem like much time, but it is just long enough for you to receive the unwanted gift of a $120 parking fine if you fail to display the designated parking placard or license plate required to park in that spot.

High-speed Chase in Northern Harford Leads To Arrest of Serial Robber

(Harford County, MD: December 9, 2009) The Harford County Joint Investigative Task Force consisting of members from the Maryland State Police Bel Air Barracks and the Harford County Sheriff’s Office arrested William Preston Grace Jr., age 22, of Port Deposit, MD in connection with several armed robberies and thefts that occurred in Harford County between December 7 and December 9, 2009. Harford County locations related to Grace’s arrest include Fallston 7-11 Convenience Store, Redner’s Warehouse Market, The Dublin Market, Bel Air 7-11 Convenience Store, Sunoco in Rock Springs, Halsey’s Market and Saubel’s Market in Pylesville, MD.

Suspect Sought In Robbery of 7-11 in Fallston and Redners in Bel Air

The subject shown is being sought for questioning in connection with a robbery of the 7-11 store located at 2400 Pleasantville Rd, Fallston, MD which occurred on Monday, December 7, 2009 at 3:00am. (HCSO CC# 09-184970).

The subject described as a white male wearing a black jacket and ball cap with logo, approximately 18-25 years old, 5′7″- 5′8″ in height and weighing 170-185 pounds entered the store selected a bottled beverage, asked for a carton of cigarettes then during the transaction with the clerk implied he had a gun in his pocket demanding the money in the register. The subject left on foot towards Pleasantville Rd.

Your safety and the safety of all Harford County citizens matter to us. That is why you will find us taking the necessary steps and precautions to keep impaired drivers off the road this holiday season.

Drunk or impaired driving killed nearly 13,000 people in 2007. That’s one person every 40 minutes. That makes it everyone’s problem. So tonight, and throughout the holiday season, if you celebrate with alcohol, use the tips we have provide and remember — Please Don’t Drink and Drive.
