A Harford County Real Estate Snapshot: Comparison of sales from 2007 to 2008
August 25, 2008
Using the MRIS search available on the Baltimore Sun’s website, The Dagger was able to gather home sales data which compares the market conditions from the first half of 2007 to the first half of 2008.
At first glance, it appears that Edgewood and Forest Hill have been hit the hardest by the real estate slump. Could Edgewood’s decline be due to the increase in violence (or at least it’s media coverage)? Maybe it’s just because a large townhouse development opened in early 2007? What about Forest Hill? Were the homes overpriced compared to the surrounding areas that did not experience similar price drops?

Student Voice: Living In A Contemporary World…85 Minutes At A Time
August 24, 2008
By Grace (a sophomore at Patterson Mill High School in Bel Air).
A new class is being offered to, or should I say imposed on, 9th grade students in Harford County Public Schools. Living in a Contemporary World (LICW) is meant to ease the transition from middle to high school as well as prepare students for adult life. One would think that the latter would be a more appropriate topic for a class taken senior year as 12th graders are closer to entering the adult world. One would be right. However, the two subjects have been smashed together to create one utterly useless class. Continue reading Student Voice: Living In A Contemporary World…85 Minutes At A Time

Seemed So Much Simpler Then…
August 23, 2008
My Mom used to cut chicken, chop eggs and spread mayo on the same cutting board with the same knife and no bleach, but we didn’t seem to get food poisoning.
My Mom used to defrost hamburger on the counter AND I used to eat it raw sometimes too, but I can’t remember getting E-coli.
Almost all of us would have rather gone swimming in the lake instead of a pristine pool (talk about boring), the term cell phone would have conjured up a phone in a jail cell, and a pager was the school PA system. Continue reading Seemed So Much Simpler Then…

FOP Lashes Out At Aberdeen Councilwoman Elliott For Questioning Police Take Home Vehicle Policy
August 18, 2008
In a strongly worded letter issued Monday, August 18, the Harford County Municipal Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 128 criticizes Aberdeen City Councilwoman Ruth Elliott for her recent suggestion to abolish the Aberdeen Police Department’s take home vehicle policy.
Not only does the FOP Lodge 128 refute Elliott’s suggestion as “disturbing,” “absurd” and an “attack” on the men and women of the Aberdeen Police Department, but the organization launches a vicious rebuttal of its own - asserting the city might be able to save money if it didn’t have to foot the bill for the councilwoman’s frequent out-of-town trips and legal expenses due to her ethics violations. The Chew Review: Roy’s Restaurant, An Excellent Choice For Baltimore Restaurant Week
August 18, 2008
Baltimore Restaurant Week is supposed to provide common folk like myself with the rare opportunity to dine like those in a higher tax bracket. Every time it rolls around, my girlfriend and I attempt to taste something expensive and new for a more reasonable price. Last time didn’t work out so well when we tried to go to Ruth’s Chris and there was a carbon monoxide leak. The way the establishment handled the cancellation of our reservations was less than satisfactory and to make a long story short, we will never attempt to dine there again. But this time around, Baltimore Restaurant Week was good to us. Why? Because we went to Roy’s Restaurant, and this establishment delivered with amazing service and delectable food.
