Harford County to Receive Federal Funding to Enhance Communication Capabilities

Senator Barbara Mikulski, Congressman Kratovil announce federal investment

(Hickory, MD) – - The Harford County Division of Emergency Operations (EOC) will be the recipient of $750,000 in federal funding to help improve communication infrastructure. The announcement was made Thursday, February 18 during a visit by United States Senator Barbara Mikulski and Congressman Frank Kratovil, with Harford County Executive David R. Craig to the Division of Emergency Operations in Hickory.

“Our first responders are the first lines of defense against everything from blizzards to terrorist attacks. I am committed to making sure they have the best tools available to dotheir jobs. Harford County Division of Emergency Operations First In Nation To Receive Tri-Accreditation Award

(Bel Air, MD) – - Harford County Executive David R. Craig, accompanied by dispatchers from the Harford County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) received the tri-accreditation award from the National Academy of Emergency Dispatch (NAED) during a brief ceremony on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at the EOC in Hickory. The award was presented by President Scott Freitag from NAED, who also serves as the director of the Salt Lake City, Utah emergency dispatch center.

The Harford County Division of Emergency Operations is only the second emergency dispatch center in the world, and first in the United States to receive a tri- accreditation award.

On hand for the award presentation were the Director of the Maryland Emergency Management Agency, Richard Muth, emergency management personnel from Cecil and Frederick Counties, Sheriff L. 3rd Annual Bulle Rock Turkey Trot Raises $5,000+ For Susquehanna Hose Company

HAVRE DE GRACE, Md. – On Thanksgiving morning, 500 runner s and walkers participated in the 3rd Annual Bulle Rock Turkey Trot, raising over $5,000 for the Susquehanna Hose Company.

Open to the public for all age groups and fitness levels, the 5K walk/run traveled from Residents’ Club at The Residences at Bulle Rock to the five-star Bulle Rock Golf Course and back to the Residents’ Club.

Havre de Grace Mayor Wayne Dougherty released the runners at exactly 9:00 and the first runner finished 17:55 minutes later. Renaissance All Sports Athletic Club recorded each participant’s finish times and a costumed turkey greeted participants and cheered them on at the finish line.

It is with mixed emotions, I announce the official retirement of Search and Rescue (SAR) Canine Katie. Katie is a member of the Harford County Technical Rescue Team; the Maryland Task Force 2 (MD-TF2) Urban Search and Rescue Team; and a past member of Chesapeake Search Dogs. She has trained in many states around the country. Katie was certified by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the International Police Work Dog Association (IPWADA) as an Urban Search and Rescue Canine. She received top honors at two national training events. Katie has taken an active role in many searches in and around the state of Maryland and was instrumental in locating a number of victims.

3rd Annual Bulle Rock Turkey Trot To Benefit Susquehanna Hose Company

On Thanksgiving morning, Havre de Grace-area residents can burn off some calories before the big feast and raise money for a great cause by participating in the 3rd Annual Bulle Rock Turkey Trot benefiting the Susquehanna Hose Company.

Open to the public for all age groups and fitness levels, the 5K walk/run will occur Nov. 26 at the Residents’ Club at The Residences at Bulle Rock (1200 Bulle Rock Pkwy.). Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m., a warm up will occur at 8:45 and the race will kick off at 9:00.

A combination of road and trail, the route will travel from the Residents’ Club down Bulle Rock Parkway across the Zachman Way pedestrian bridge, down Blenheim Road to the five-star Bulle Rock Golf Course and back to the Residents’ Club.

Harford Emergency Operations Attains Highest Accreditation; First 911 Center In Nation To Achieve Status

(Bel Air, MD) – - The Harford County Emergency Operations Center located in Hickory, attained the highest accreditation possible, as an Accredited Center of Excellence (ACE) for use of its Fire, Police and Medical protocols. The Harford County EOC is only the second center in the world to achieve all three levels of accreditation. The first center to attain the highest level of accreditation was in Alberta, Canada.

“I am extremely proud of the men and women of the Harford County Emergency Operations Center who worked hard to achieve the highest accreditation possible,” stated Harford County Executive David R. Craig. “The Harford County EOC has served the citizens of Harford County with excellence and exemplary service for many, many years. This is a time not only to educate the public on fire prevention and life safety issues but also to broaden their understanding of the fire service as a whole. Sen. Glassman Receives Legislator Of The Year Award From State Firemen

Ocean City, MD – Northern Harford County State Senator Barry Glassman (R-35) received the Senator William H. Amoss Memorial Legislative Award Tuesday at the Maryland State Firemen’s 117th Annual Convention in Ocean City. Senator Glassman, who thought he was presenting citations at the morning session, was surprised as he was introduced to the convention.

The Legislator of the Year Award recognizes an individual’s contributions and determination in promoting the betterment of Maryland Fire and Rescue and Emergency Services through successful legislation and the legislative process.

Harford County Receives ACE Accreditation for Fire Call Taking and Dispatch

Harford County Division of Emergency Operations is the eighth public safety answering point to receive ACE accreditation for Fire call taking and dispatch

(Bel Air, MD) — InterAct Public Safety, a leading provider of safety and security software used by government agencies as well as private sector businesses, announces that one of their customers, Harford County Division of Emergency Operations, has obtained Accredited Center of Excellence (ACE)Certification from the National Academies of Emergency Dispatch (NAED) for fire call taking and dispatch. Harford County is one of only eight centers to ever receive such accreditation.

Obtaining ACE accreditation requires months of statistical data, research, documentation, and planning. Once a center applies for accreditation, an NAED auditor reviews the application and checks for Protocol Compliance against randomly selected events – ultimately providing recommendations to the Board of Accreditation. Small Fire at the Harford County Detention Center

(Harford County, MD – April 10, 2009) – At approximately 8:45am on Friday April 10, 2009, the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire in the kitchen of the Harford County Detention Center. The fire was contained by 9:00am and firefighters cleared the scene not later than 9:20am.

To maintain the security of the perimeter throughout the incident, the Detention Center was placed on lockdown until 10am. Twelve inmates working KP in the kitchen area were moved and secured in another section of the facility, but no one, staff or inmates, were evacuated outside of the building. There were no injuries. Normal operations of the Harford County Detention Center have since resumed.

Sheriff L. Jesse Bane commended his staff members (Correctional Officers, Law Enforcement and Civilians) involved in the incident for the professionalism of their actions and efficiency in handling the situation. Their training was ...Continue Reading
